Closing in on 400 wins, Tuslaw's Dave Burkett inducted into baseball coaches hall of fame

Tuslaw head baseball coach Dave Burkett was inducted into the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame this past weekend in Columbus.

Burkett has coached at his alma mater since 2009. His overall record is 154-166 with one PAC-7 championship in 2014, four sectional titles, a district runner-up finish in 2012 and a school record-tying 20 wins in 2011 and 2014. He retired as Tuslaw athletic director last spring.

Burkett also has served as head baseball coach and athletic director at Sandy Valley and Colonel Crawford. While at Sandy Valley, he guided the Cardinals to a school-record 25 wins in 2009 and an overall record of 116-53 in six seasons. His teams won a sectional title in 2009, finished second in the Inter-Valley Conference three times and was district runner-up to eventual state champion Indian Valley.

Overall, Burkett has a record of 383-324 and has coached 13 All-Ohioans. He has served on the OHSBCA's board of directors for 24 years and was the OHSBCA's president in 2005.

Burkett also received the 2022 Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity Award for all coaches from the Ohio High School Athletic Association this past weekend.
