Browns camp live updates, day 13: Myles Garrett, Jack Conklin, Denzel Ward leave practice

PHILADELPHIA — The two most important days of the preseason have arrived.

Nothing the Browns do in any single training camp practice by themselves in Berea, nor any of the four preseason games, will quite match what they're going to get from being at the NovaCare Complex in Philadelphia on Monday and Tuesday. They won't be full-tackling practices, but what they will be doing against the NFC champion Eagles is as close to two days of quality work as you're going to find before the season opener.

The Browns and Eagles are practicing at 5 p.m. both days. While the exact format is being decided by Philadelphia coach Nick Sirianni and his staff — "We show up and do what we’re told," Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said earlier — the one part that is assured is that they will be mostly full-contact drills.

For Browns All-Pros such as running back Nick Chubb, defensive end Myles Garrett and left guard Joel Bitonio, it may very well be their only full-contact competition against another team until the Sept. 10 season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals. They didn't play with the rest of the starters in last Friday's preseason game against the Washington Commanders; won't play against the Eagles in Thursday's preseason game; and have not yet had a determination on their playing status for the Aug. 26 preseason finale at the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

Beyond that, it's a breakup of the practice monotony. Specifically, it's a chance to go against someone who doesn't know all your plays.

"It's a phenomenal measuring stick because defense is usually familiar with the offense, the offense is usually familiar with the defense," linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah said last week. "So it's the sort of stuff that goes on that you may not get if you were just going against each other. So, again, going against somebody else, that will be a great opportunity for us."

Follow along here throughout the afternoon for updates as warranted.

Myles Garrett, Jack Conklin, Denzel Ward all leave practice with ailments

Three of the Browns' top players didn't finish practice. However, there's no immediate word on their status for Tuesday's second practice with the Eagles.

Right tackle Jack Conklin was being evaluated for a concussion. He sustained a head injury about halfway through Monday's practice.

Both defensive end Garrett and cornerback Denzel Ward left during 11-on-11 drills late in practice. Garrett sustained a foot injury, while Ward was being treated for an illness.

Garrett was one of the last Browns to leave the field area of the NovaCare Complex, as he and quarterback Deshaun Watson stopped to sign autographs and pose for pictures. Garrett was both shirtless and barefoot as he did so, but left smiling even as he appeared to have a slight limp.

Cornerback Greg Newsome II back on the practice field

The Browns picked up a big addition to their practice participants on Monday, when cornerback Greg Newsome II was back on the field for the first time in two weeks.

Stefanski said before practice with the Eagles that Newsome will be practicing "on a limited basis."

Newsome had been out since leaving the Browns' first training camp practice in Berea on Aug. 1. He had sustained a groin injury in that practice.

Elijah Moore won't go against Eagles, at least on Monday

Receiver Elijah Moore won't practice against the Eagles on Monday as he rests his ribs after an injury in last Friday's preseason game with the Washington Commanders. Stefanski said he was "hopeful" Moore would be able to go on the second day of joint practices Tuesday.

Moore had an 18-yard run and a 6-yard catch on the first drive of Friday's preseason game.

Anthony Walker Jr., Sione Takitaki will practice against Philadelphia Eagles

A good sign for the Browns linebacking corps is the fact Anthony Walker Jr. and Sione Takitaki will both practice against the Eagles. Stefanski said it wouldn't be "everything, but they will be practicing."

The linebacking corps suffered a body blow on Friday night when Jacob Phillips sustained a second consecutive season-ending torn pectoral muscle. It's a different pec muscle than what he tore in Week 7 last season against the Baltimore Ravens.

Walker continues to come back from a torn quad muscle suffered in Week 3 last season. Takitaki is returning for a Week 13 torn ACL.

Marquise Goodwin continues to work to the side

Veteran receiver Marquise Goodwin walked out on the field at the NovaCare Complex carrying his helmet. He was not in full equipment, though.

Stefanski called it "just normal progression." He said Goodwin is not yet ready to practice.

Goodwin has been on the non-football illness list with blood cots

Browns announce time change for Sunday's training camp practice

The next training camp practice for the Browns in Berea will be on Sunday. However, it now has a new starting time.

The team announce Sunday's practice has been moved up to 10:45 a.m. It had been originally scheduled for 2 p.m.

The practice will be designated both Browns Backers Day, as had been scheduled, and Superheroes Day, which was rescheduled from a previous day due to weather. Gates open for fans at 9:45 a.m.

The final four training camp practices are next week. After Sunday, there will be practices at 1:25 p.m. Aug. 22 and 23, then the final camp day at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 24.
