Clements girls fall short in state finals

Mar. 3—BIRMINGHAM — The clock struck midnight on the Clements' girls magical season in the Class 3A finals Friday afternoon.

Trinity Presbyterian of Montgomery rallied in the fourth quarter to take a 52-48 win at Legacy Arena in Birmingham.

The Clements Colts led after each of the first three quarters, but the fourth quarter was their undoing. Trinity scored the first 12 points to take a 41-37 lead.

Trinity (32-2) scored 23 points in the final quarter after scoring just 29 points in the first three quarters.

Clements hit three of its five made 3-point baskets in the fourth quarter to stay close, but time ran out on the Colts.

Final stats show Clements leading for 25:08 to just 5:31 for Trinity.

Leah Childress topped Clements with 15 points and seven rebounds. Taylor Farrar scored 12. Jadyn McElyea had nine. The Colts got four points each from Jenny Trent, Jakayla Farrar and Shakarri Bailey.

Trinity's Mya Moskowitz had 13 points and was named the tournament MVP. Clements was represented on the team with Childress and Farror.

Clements (28-7) closes a remarkable run for the program in head coach Shane Childress' first season. The Colts were 13-15 last season.

McElyea and Trent are the team's only seniors.
