Class 1A state golf: Episcopal’s Henry Robards closes fast to finish second and lead Eagles to runnerup

Henry Robards shot 1-under 71 on Saturday at the Mission Inn Resort El Campeon Course to lead the Episcopal boys golf team to a second-place finish in the FHSAA Class 1A state tournament.

Robards, a junior, birdied two of his last five holes and tied for second, one shot behind Jack Quinn of FAU. The Eagles had a team score of 16-over 304 and finished 10 shots behind Florida Atlantic High.

Cam Goldknopf and Connor Hess both shot 75 to tie for 16th and help Episcopal’s cause.

Miles Russell of Providence, playing as an individual, tied for ninth with a 73.

Bolles finished 30 shots behind Episcopal, led by Andrew Morgan (79). The Bulldogs won the District 4-1A title over the Eagles by eight shots, and Episcopal countered with a six-shot victory in the Region 1-1A tournament.

In the girls tournament at the Las Colinas Course, First Academy won at 2-under 286 to beat Circle Christian by three shots and FAU and Lake Mary Prep by five. Bolles was solo seventh at 314.

Emma Wells of Providence was the low area player with a 73 to tie for 12th. Violet Robbins (74) tied for 20th to lead Bolles and Anaya Nahar (75) tied for 25th.

Episcopal finished 14th, led by Sofia Davila (77). Providence was 15th.
