CIF State volleyball playoff brackets released: Here's who grabbed top seed

West Valley, Foothill, U-Prep and Fall River all grabbed home games in the first round of the CIF state playoffs as the brackets were announced Sunday.

The state finals are Nov. 17-18 at Santiago Canyon College in Southern California.

The Eagles, who won the Northern Section Division III title on Saturday, landed the No. 6 seed in the state Division III bracket. They host 11-seed Lodi (20-10) at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

With a victory Tuesday, the Eagles would play the winner of No. 3 Archie Williams of San Anselmo (15-10) and No. 14 Ripon (30-6).

There’s a chance for West Valley to meet Palo Cerdo’s Foothill, which landed a No. 7 seed in the D-III bracket after falling in straight sets to Pleasant Valley in the Northern Section D-II finals. The Cougars host No. 10 Cardinal Newman of Santa Rosa (28-7). The Cardinals fell 3-0 to Head Royce in the semifinals of the North Coast Section Division 4 bracket.

The high seed on West Valley and Foothill’s side of the bracket is No. 2 Mercy of Burlingame (22-11). The one-seed in the D-III bracket is Harbor of Santa Cruz (29-8).

U-Prep dropped to the Division V bracket after its Northern Section Division IV title on Saturday over Willows. The 23-13 Panthers grabbed the No. 6 seed and host No. 11 Big Valley Christian (24-12). The Bears of Modesto fell 3-0 to Bradshaw Christian in the Sac-Joaquin D-V semifinals.

The Panthers would draw the winner of No. 3 Bear Valley of Grass Valley (30-2) and No. 14 Roosevelt of Fresno (16-17) should they advance to the second round.

Willows, which fell to U-Prep in four sets in the Northern Section finals, grabbed a No. 7 slot in the state bracket and hosts No. 10 Trinity, which lost in five sets to East Nicolaus on Saturday.

The Willows-Trinity winner plays No. 2 Bradshaw Christian, which won the Sac-Joaquin D-V title. Skyline of Oakland (16-3) is the No. 1 seed in the Division V bracket.

Fall River, who ran to a NorCal Division VI title last season, again grabbed the top seed in the Northern California-only bracket. The Bulldogs (20-6) swept Maxwell on Saturday in the Northern Section finals on Saturday.

The defending champs earned a first-round bye and host the 4-5 winner between Sacramento Country Day (21-5) and St. Bernard’s of Eureka (18-9). A rematch of the section final is possible as Maxwell grabbed the two-seed and the bye. The 26-4 Panthers await the winner between No. 3 Stone Ridge Christian of Merced (24-11) and No. 6 North Hills Christian of Vallejo (22-2).

Pleasant Valley, the Northern Section Division II champion, grabbed a two-seed in the state D-II bracket and hosts No. 15 Tamalpais on Tuesday. Fellow Northern Section teams Chico landed the three seed in the D-IV bracket and hosts No.14 Bullard and Orland is on the road as the No. 13 seed against No. 3 Fresno Christian.
