CHSAA State Wrestling Championships Day 2 results. See who made it to the finals here.
Day two of the CHSAA state wrestling tournament took place on Friday and out of the 21 wrestlers that made it to the quarterfinals of the tournament,10 advanced to the semi-finals.
In Class 2A, Miguel Franco faced off against Aven Bourriague of Ignacio in his semi-final matchup. Franco successfully defeated Bourriague by way of a decision 6-0. He will face Derreck Buford of Crowley County in the Class 2A 106-pound division finals.
In Class 3A, David Sanchez and Genaro Pino both advanced to the semis. Sanchez faced off against Garret McGirl of Valley. Sanchez defeated McGirl by way of pinfall in the final seconds of the third period of their matchup. He will go on to face Royce Uhrig of Gunnison in the Class 3A 150-pound finals.
Genaro faced off against Christopher Smith of Mullen. Genaro won by decision 9-4 and will go on to face Preston Smith from Eaton in the Class 3A 160-pound finals matchup.
For the girls, Acelyn Duran and Kenna Pino both advanced to the semis. Duran went up against Isabella Smouse of Brighton in her semi-final matchup and Kenna faced off against Kacey Walck of North Fork. Duran went on to win by major decision 11-3 and will face off against Rylee Balcazar of Fort Lupton in the girls 105-pound division.
Kenna lost her match against Walck by way of pinfall.
In Class 4A, Pueblo Centennials Jason Soto, Pueblo County’s Tony Macaluso, and Pueblo East’s Manuel ‘Pocky’ Amaro, Deven Lopez, and Niko Fernandez all advanced to the semi-finals.
Soto faced off against Otto Black of Mead. Soto dropped his match against Black by a decision 10-3.
Macaluso went up against Jake Glade of Mead. Macaluso would lose this matchup against Glade by way of pinfall.
Amaro faced off against August Soto of Broomfield. Amaro won by pinfall within the first minute and will face James Pantoja of Windsor in the Class 4A 106-pound finals.
Lopez went up against Tobias Pinson in his semi-final match. Lopez won his matchup by way of decision 6-1 and will face off against AJ Hague of Riverdale Ridge in the Class 4A 126-pound division.
Fernandez faced off against Damien Reyes of Mesa Ridge. He won a tough matchup by way of decision 3-2 and will match up against Mikai Alirez of Greeley Central in the Class 4A 132-pound division.
