Christmas wish list: 5 things we’d like to see for the Steelers

With two weeks remaining, the NFL is about to wrap up its 2020 regular season with a big pretty bow. 14 teams will head into the postseason with visions of a Super Bowl dancing in their heads. One of those teams is our beloved Pittsburgh Steelers — playoff-bound for the first time since 2017.

In the spirit of the holiday season, here are five things Steelers Wire is asking Santa for Pittsburgh heads into the remainder of the season.

Along with the Steelers loss to the Bengals went what should've been an easy shot at winning the division. Now they need to beat the Colts in Pittsburgh Sunday or head into Cleveland on Jan. 3 with a real battle on their hands.

This ask comes becomes paramount if the Steelers can't edge out the Colts. Should Pittsburgh take the division this week, a sweep of the Browns would be a real confidence-booster heading into the playoffs.

A plan the Steelers can win with

I feel like we're being punked -- like the Steelers are just pretending to suck so they can ride into the playoffs and shock the world. Pittsburgh's offensive plan, which was successful for the first 11 games, went stale, yet it continued and was to blame for three consecutive losses. I know it's asking for a miracle for the offense to improve vastly, but at the least, if Big Ben and the receivers could just do their jobs (no picks and catch passes) and the run game could produce more than three yards per carry, Pittsburgh's defense can do the rest.

Everyone to stay healthy

The injury bug hit Pittsburgh early and often this season. For the most part, their next man up mentality has helped the team from completely imploding. There's no getting back Devin Bush or Bud Dupree, but if bumps and bruises associated with play are all that happens for the remainder of the 2020-2021 season, the Steelers should consider themselves lucky. Oh, and Robert Spillane returning for the playoffs would be really nice.

A deep playoff run

Like the 13 other teams destined for a playoff spot, the Steelers have visions of a Super Bowl dancing in their heads. But after the skid they've experienced, I would hope they're focused on simply outplaying their opponent. A Super Bowl is what Steelers Nation wants, but a deep playoff run is the best we can ask for at this very moment.
