Christian Ostrander gives Carson Paetow injury update for Southern Miss baseball

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Southern Miss baseball played Wednesday in the 2024 Sun Belt Tournament without its starting right fielder for the first time all season.

Carson Paetow missed the 5-0 win against Coastal Carolina at Riverwalk Stadium with what coach Christian Ostrander described as a wrist injury. He said the injury occurred on Saturday during the regular-season finale against Texas State.  Paetow was removed for pinch hitter Brady Faust in the sixth inning of that game.

“Unfortunately, in the last game against Texas State he took a swing and something didn’t feel real well in that wrist,” Ostrander said. “We got it looked at and X-rays didn’t show any kind of fracture or anything. He got a shot Monday, and we hoped it would be OK today. He tried BP and couldn’t go.”

Paetow went through warmups, although he did have a wrap on his right wrist.

Ostrander was asked if he’d consider Paetow to be day-to-day and he said, “I think so. It doesn’t bother him or anything. It’s just the swing and grip strength I guess.”

Southern Miss (38-18) plays Thursday at 4 p.m. against Troy (37-20).

Paetow, a 6-foot-3, 214-pound junior, is batting .285 with 11 home runs, 46 RBIs and a team-leading 43 walks.
