Chris Paul heads to Golden State Warriors as Washington Wizards trade newly acquired guard

The Golden State Warriors and Washington Wizards have reached a deal that will send Chris Paul to the Warriors for Jordan Poole, Ryan Rollins, a 2027 second-round pick and a 2030 first-round pick, a person familiar with details told USA TODAY Sports.

The person requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly until the deal is official.

The Wizards just acquired Paul from the Phoenix Suns in the Bradley Beal trade, however, Paul was not interested in playing for the rebuilding Wizards, who then tried to find a trade partner.

Golden State stepped up, acquiring the 11-time All-NBA performer who adds a veteran presence but won’t be relied upon as much with Steph Curry and Klay Thompson at the guard spots.

The Warriors also had made a decision on Poole, who Draymond Green punched in training camp in 2023. While the Warriors, Green and Poole tried to manage the season, it had an impact on the team.

Golden State, the 2022 champions who lost in the second round of this year's playoffs to the Los Angeles Lakers, believe they still have a championship window open with Curry, Thompson, Green and now Paul joining an experienced roster.

The Wizards’ new front office, led by former Los Angeles Clippers general manager Michael Winger, continues to blow up the roster for what looks like a lengthy rebuild. In the past week, Washington has traded Beal, Kristaps Porzingis and Paul and it’s unlikely the bring back free agent Kyle Kuzma.
