Chop Robinson 40 time: Penn State edge rusher posts blistering 4.48 at NFL Combine

Anyone who watched Chop Robinson come off the edge last season, especially opposing quarterbacks, could see just how fast and explosive the Penn State defensive end was.

Now, as he prepares to exhibit his skills to NFL teams, he has shown exactly how speedy he is.

The 6-foot-3, 254-pound Robinson ran the 40-yard dash in 4.48 seconds on Wednesday at the 2024 NFL scouting combine at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. He was initially clocked at 4.49 seconds unofficially before a hundredth of a second was shaved off for the official time. It's tied for the eighth-fastest 40-yard dash time among defensive ends, with Nolan Smith and Montez Sweat being among those faster.

That time is the fastest among all defensive linemen who had run the drill as of early Wednesday evening, with the next-closest player, Colorado State’s Mohamed Kamara, nearly a full tenth of a second behind him.

In other drills at the combine, Robinson had a vertical jump of 34 feet, 5 inches and a broad jump of 10 feet, 8 inches.

He has received a prospect score of 6.7 from NFL.com, which the outlet categorizes as a “Year 1 starter.” Through the scouting process, he has received comparisons to former Penn State star Micah Parsons, now an all-pro linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys.

The Gaithersburg, Maryland native, who spent his first college season at Maryland before transferring to Penn State, was one of the stars of a Nittany Lions defense last season that ranked third in scoring defense and second in total defense among 133 FBS teams.

Robinson had 7.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, five quarterback hurries and two forced fumbles in 10 games in 2023. With that production, he earned first-team all-Big Ten honors from both the league’s coaches and media.
