Chiefs give CB L’Jarius Sneed franchise tag

It is official. The Kansas City Chiefs have used the franchise tag on cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, who would have been arguably the most sought-after cornerback in the free agent market.

However, Sneed is still available for other teams. He has been given permission to seek a trade.

At the very minimum, he will play 2024 for the Chiefs on a one-year deal worth $19.8 million.

The other option is where the Chiefs and another team agree to a trade and then sign Sneed to a long-term deal.

What would it take? SI.com’s Albert Breer suggests a second-round pick would be enough, and then Sneed would get a contract averaging more than $20 million per year.

The Arizona Cardinals could use a cornerback of Sneed’s caliber. They have cap space and a second-round pick they could offer.

Sneed is big at 6-1, 192 pounds. He is physical (exceeding 75 tackles and five tackles for loss each of the last three season) and makes plays on the ball (five interceptions and 25 passes defensed over the last two season).

If the Cardinals are going to make a splash in the offseason, this is a move worth making.
