Chenango Valley swimmer Tyler Schultz voted Athlete of Week for events ending Jan. 13

Chenango Valley swimming standout Tyler Schultz has been voted Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 13.

Schultz, a senior, was part of four victories at Waverly's invitational, with all four times below the standard to qualify for the state championship meet. He won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:41.93, 500 freestyle in 4:45.43 and contributed to wins in the 200 freestyle relay (1:29.7) and 400 freestyle relay (3:17.41).

Last year Schultz was the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin's Greater Binghamton Elite Boys Swimmer/Diver of the Year.

Schultz received more than 68% of the votes cast online, with Horseheads girls basketball player Sophia Bonnell second with just under 24%.

The other nominees were Elmira High boys basketball player James Harris, Johnson City boys basketball player Zubayr Griffin, Tioga Central boys basketball player Evan Sickler and Southern Cayuga girls basketball player Charli Bennett.
