Here’s a look at 25 of the top returning boys basketball players in Northwest Louisiana as the 2023-24 season kicks off this week. The list includes nine athletes who were selected to the 2023 Shreveport Times All-City and All-Area boys basketball teams.

Landon Anderson

Lakeside, Sr.

Ht: 5-11

The skinny: “Anderson averaged a little better than nine points each game in district last year and has a great basketball mind.” Coach Turner Madden

Aidan Anding

Ruston, Jr.

Ht: 5-10

The skinny: “Aidan is our leading returning scorer. He’s a tremendous shooter who plays great defense.” Coach Ryan Bond

Brhaelyn Brown

Parkway, Sr.

Ht: 6-1

The skinny: "Brhaelyn was the team’s leading scorer last season and was a second team All-District 1-5A selection. He has the ability to score on all three levels and has added a post game to his arsenal. He is one of the best shooters in the area on a team that shoots the ball very well from deep.” Coach Brian Rayner

Ht: 6-4

The skinny: Clark was hurt last season but played extremely well this summer.

Spencer Dunn

Homer, Jr.

Ht: 6-0

The skinny: Dunn averaged 16.6 points, 4.2 rebounds making the Shreveport Times All-Area team.

Jeremiah Evans

Southwood, Sr.

Ht: 6-10

The skinny: “Coaches believe Evans is one of the finalists for the best player in the state conversation." Coach Brandon Gultery

Nikious Green

Northwood, Sr.

Ht: 6-1

The skinny: “Nikious has worked hard this off season to step into the role of being a leader offensively and defensively. He has also worked hard to improve on his ability to score and handle the basketball.” Coach Jimmie Davis

Brandon Henderson

Woodlawn, Jr.

Ht: 6-0

The skinny: “Brandon is one of the most coachable kids I have ever coached in my 30 years of coaching. He is a great facilitator who can score the ball when he has to.” Coach Kenny Goodman

Rondae Hill

Calvary, Sr.

Ht: 5-11

The skinny: "Rondae had a breakout year last season. He was named first team All-State in 2A, District MVP and first team Times All-City. He’s worked hard all off-season and is primed for an even bigger senior campaign.” Coach Vic Morris

Dale Howard

North DeSoto, Sr.

Ht: 5-7

The skinny: “Dale is a 2-year starter who handles the ball really well, controls the game and is a great team leader.” Coach Josh James

Tre Jackson

Airline, Sr.

Ht: 5-9

The skinny: “Tre has the ability to be a true floor general on the court. He has a high IQ and ability to score and facilitate when needed. His leadership will be key heading into our playoff run.” Coach Cedric Washington

Connor Johnson

Cedar Creek, Sr.

Ht: 5-9

The skinny: “I expect Connor to be our top scorer. He gives 100% effort all the time and is an excellent shooter.” Coach Lance Waldron

Javon Johnson

Bossier, Sr.

Ht: 6-2

The skinny: “Javon is a three-level scorer, who is explosive, and can guard the other team's best player.” Coach Justin Collins

Bowman Lovell

Haughton, Sr.

Ht: 6-0

The skinny: “A transfer from Providence Academy who was on the All-Parish team last year.” Coach Robert Price

Greg Manning

Benton, Sr.

Ht: 5-8

The skinny: Manning averaged 19.7 points, 5 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.5 steals last season. “He is the best two-sport athlete in our area.” Coach Todd Martinez

Green Oaks, Sr.

Ht: 5-10

The skinny: “He is a four-year returning starter and with the most experience on the team. He's our leader and he is more than capable of leading this team.” Coach Demetrius Wiggins

The skinny: The quick O’Neal has the potential to score the ball in big numbers.

Ht: 5-10

The skinny: “CJ is your bonafide basketball player. He’s coming off a great sophomore season. He led us in scoring (18 ppg) last year. Hopefully, he can pick-up where he left off.” Coach Eric Shepherd

Andre Sowell

Lakeview, Jr.

Ht: 6-1

The skinny: “A high-flyer with an unbelievable motor. Will be our No. 1 scoring option and has been filling it up and dunking over opponents since his freshman year. Averaged 12 points and seven rebounds last season.” Coach Brian Williams

Ht: 6-3

The skinny: “Jyrin Sowell can guard positions one through five on defense. At the same time, he is too strong to be guarded by a guard and too fast to be guarded by a big. Simply put, he is a match-up nightmare on the basketball court.” Coach Corey Deans

Jacob Stewart

Huntington, Sr.

Ht: 5-9

The skinny: “Jacob played big part of our success last season off the bench. This year his role is very important all around after losing eight seniors.” Coach Mack Jones

Cage Van Norman

Loyola, Jr.

Ht: 6-0

The skinny: “Cage has a great feel for the game and is a fierce competitor.” Coach Ben Schonfarber

Ayden Warren

St. Mary’s, Sr.

Ht: 5-11

The skinny: Warren made the All-State team last season averaging 16.7 points and 4.1 assists. He was recently offered by ETBU with interest from Harding, SAGU and BRCC.

Jayden Wells

Red River, Jr.

Ht: 5-8

The skinny: “Jayden shoots the basketball at a high volume, is very efficient in every aspect of the game and is tough defensively. Jayden is a workhorse and is never satisfied with being average. He averaged 11 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals last season.” Coach Dedrian Harris
