Chargers Crush Jets, 31-0
Branden Oliver established the ground game, paving the way to a rout for the Chargers over the hapless Jets, 31-0, at home.
Philip Rivers picked apart the Jets for three touchdowns on 20 of 28 passing for 288 yards and one pick. In comparison, Michael Vick did not have as good a day for the Jets, going 8 of 19 with 47 yards passing, no touchdowns and no interceptions.
Oliver was a key factor for the Chargers, running all over the Jets for 114 yards on 19 carries with a touchdown in addition to four receptions for 68 yards and another score. Antonio Gates was a highlight, pulling in four passes for 60 yards with two touchdowns.
The San Diego defense was the major reason for the victory, allowing only 74 yards passing and 91 rushing while coming away with one interception. They got to Vick for two sacks.
Jets running back Chris Ivory tallied 44 yards rushing.
The Chargers head to Oakland next week to face the Raiders (0-4) while the Jets host the Broncos (3-1).
