What channel is Detroit Lions vs. Seattle Seahawks on today? Time, TV schedule

What channel is Detroit Lions vs. Seattle Seahawks today?

TV channel: Fox (Channel 2 in Detroit).

Streaming live: FUBO (free trial).

Radio: WXYT-FM (97.1) in Detroit (find all Lions radio affiliates).

It's the first game of 2023 on Fox, after the Lions opened the season under the lights on NBC on Sept. 7. Need a sign that the networks are taking the Lions seriously? They'll get arguably Fox's top broadcast team, with Kevin Burkhardt doing play-by-play and former Bears tight end Greg Olson as the analyst.

You can also watch the game live by streaming on FUBO with a free trial.

Game notes: The Lions will go for their season-opening win streak since 2017, when they won two straight (and then lost in Week 3 on a disputed clock rundown against the Atlanta Falcons). They’ll have to get through the Seahawks for the first time since 2012. It hasn’t been a rare rivalry meeting, either, with the Seahawks prevailing in 2015, 2017 (in a playoff game), 2018, and twice in 2022.

LIVE UPDATES: Detroit Lions vs. Seattle Seahawks from Ford Field

Those games last year featured 99 combined points by Seattle, 51 in Seattle in the next-to-last game of the 2021 season, and then 48 points last year in a Week 4 victory at Ford Field. We’re guessing that may have come up in team-wide discussions this week, especially since the Seahawks were the 9-8 team making the NFC playoffs, rather than the Lions.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf makes a catch against Detroit Lions cornerback Jeff Okudah during the first half at Ford Field, Oct. 2, 2022.

Seattle is mostly running back the spine of that playoff squad this season, giving QB Geno Smith a big-money deal to stick around and throw to DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, and plugging a couple holes via the draft with first-round picks Devon Witherspoon (Illinois) and Jaxon Smith-Njigba (Ohio State) at cornerback and wide receiver, respectively. Witherspoon is out today, but Smith-Njigba should play after recovering from wrist surger during the preseason — he had three catches (on five targets) for 13 yards in Seattle’s 30-13 loss to the L.A. Rams last week. The biggest problem for the Seahawks are at the tackles: Second-year starters Abe Lucas and Charles Cross will both miss this game, with Lucas placed on injured reserve for four games and Cross ruled out on Friday.

The Lions have had 10 days to rest up since their opening win in Kansas City, but they’ll be without their own left tackle, Taylor Decker, for this one. Expect Penei Sewell to slide over from right tackle; he played about half of his rookie season, 2021, on the left side as the Lions waited for their super-line to finally get healthy.

After today’s game, the Lions remain home for a Week 3  visit from the Falcons on Sept. 24, while the Seahawks return to Seattle to prep for a visit from the Carolina Panthers. It’ll be a short week after that for the Lions, as they finish out the month with a Thursday night visit to Green Bay on Sept. 28.
