Poll results: Bellefonte track and field relay team named Centre County athletes of the week

Members of a Bellefonte track and field relay team are the Centre County athletes of the week for May 6-12, as selected by readers of CentreDaily.com.

The Bellefonte 4x800m relay team broke their own school record at the Mountain Lion Classic. The group — made up of Caleb Vinnedge, Kaiden Williams, Grady Garrison and Alex Crist — helped the boys’ team win the AA title at the invitational.

They had 114 votes in the poll, or 49%.

Below is a look at the other nominees:

Nick Gillespie, Penns Valley baseball: Penns Valley’s Nick Gillespie knocked in three runs in a come-from-behind win over Bellwood-Antis, helping the Rams win two of their three games. Gillespie batted .500 over those three games.

Abby Stitzer, Penns Valley track and field: Penns Valley’s Abby Stitzer set a new Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference track and field meet record in the 800m with a time of 2:20.09. The Clarion commit for soccer also finished second in the 400 meters.

She came in second place in the poll, with 102 votes (44%).

For the CDT’s Athlete of the Week polls this season, we will take nominations from all six county athletic departments for athlete of the week. Voting for this poll ended Sunday. As a reminder, the poll is not scientific and just for fun. In fact, we invite you to vote as many times as you want. Look for future polls at CentreDaily.com.
