Cedar Ridge edges Vista Ridge in OT to take over the lead in District 25-6A girls race

In a matchup of the two undefeated teams in District 25-6A, Cedar Ridge beat Vista Ridge 51-50 in overtime Friday night. Janiyah Alvarez led the Raiders with 18 points while Mikala Johnson added 12 and Devynn Davis chipped in 10.

“We were down 10 points at the half and battled back to force the overtime,” Cedar Ridge coach Kevin Lewis said. "It showed how tough our kids are. They never quit and kept believing in each other. I am extremely proud of them.”

The win kept the Raiders (11-6, 3-0) perfect in district while Vista Ridge fell to 12-6 and 2-1, tied in district with McNeil and Vandegrift.

Broxterman shines: Vandegrift point guard Maddie Broxterman scored 29 points with four steals and five rebounds as the Vipers beat Stony Point 55-41. Saania Khawaja added 19 points with five boards and four steals. Aima Ofunrein led the Tigers with 14 points, seven rebounds and two steals while Mary Bortels had 14 points, nine rebounds and two steals.

McNeil tops Manor: Riley Samples scored 18 points with five steals and 11 rebounds as McNeil beat Manor 45-41. Karvi Madyastha added 14 points while Caria Thomas finished with eight points and eight assists. Madison Brown led Manor with 17 points, which included 11 free throws. ... Macie Upshaw poured in 17 points to lead Round Rock past Westwood 74-38. The Dragons started the district season with losses to Cedar Ridge and Vista Ridge, but are 14-4, 1-2 after the win over Westwood.

Westlake keeps on rolling

Westlake sophomore Tamia King scored 17 points with 13 rebounds as the 12th-ranked Chaps beat Dripping Springs 68-23. Gianna Angiolet led the Chaps with 24 points.

“Dripping Springs played hard and gave great effort,“ Westlake coach Vickie Benson said. "They have some good pieces to their team, and I am proud of our team for staying locked in and focused.  We are trying to be better each time we step on the court no matter what,”

Westlake is tied for first in district with Bowie (11-5, 5-0), which beat Johnson 48-43 for its fifth straight win and sixth in seven games. In other district action, defending district champion Austin High blasted Akins 74-25 and Lake Travis beat Anderson 60-34.

District 23-5A remains knotted up

Georgetown and Hendrickson remained tied for first in District 23-5A after the Eagles beat Pflugerville 56-29 and Hendrickson beat Bastrop 70-21. East View beat Cedar Creek 58-31 and Connally edged Elgin 28-27.

Georgetown's Reese Hoadley scored 37 points in less than three quarters and was 9-of-12 on 3-point shots, breaking a 28-year-old school record. Bella Dobbs had six points, four steals, six rebounds and seven assists in the win, while Chasidy Lee had 10 points with eight boards.

Jasmine Culpepper scored 18 points to lead Hendrickson past Bastrop 70-21. Trinity Jackson added 13 points while Trinity Alexander scored 11.

Around the area

McCallum leads 24-5A: McCallum remains on top in 24-5A after the Knights beat Eastside 66-18 while LASA beat Northeast 62-10 and Ann Richards edged Travis 34-26. Crockett lost a non-district game to Lago Vista 51-32.

Liberty Hill stays perfect: In District 25-6A, Cedar Park raced past Lehman 76-18 while Liberty Hill remained perfect by beating Rouse 61-28.  Glenn beat Lockhart 70-26 and Hays crushed Leander 86-33.

Liberty Hill pressured Rouse quickly, taking leads of 10-3 after a quarter and 28-7 at the half.  Gabby Munday led the Panthers with 14 points while Lindsay Bullock added 13 and Evie Bruce chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds. Cadence Williams led Rouse with 11 points.

Glenn’s Soma Okolo scored 20 points, including 14 in the first quarter, while Marissa Hernandez scored 14 points and Cindy Foka added nine points in the Grizzlies' win.

In other action: Jarrell beat Giddings 61-45 while Burnet won its fourth straight game by beating China Spring 43-26. Lampasas raced past Florence 60-13 while Lago Vista beat Crockett 51-32. ... Hill Country Christian defeated Waldorf 46-10 and St. Stephen’s beat Marble Falls Faith and St. Andrews beat Founders Classical Academy 45-25.

Johnson City lauded as top team

Team of the week: Johnson City. The Class 2A Eagles beat Harper 26-13 for their 15th straight win and ascended to the top spot in the Texas Girls Coaches Association state poll. Jackie Early scored 11 points and Brooke Hobbs added nine for the top-ranked Eagles.
