Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell out for Game 4 vs. Celtics with left calf strain, per reports

As the Cleveland Cavaliers look to avoid falling into a 3-1 deficit against the top-seeded Boston Celtics, they'll have to do so without their star player.

Guard Donovan Mitchell will miss Game 4 of their Eastern Conference semifinals Monday due to a left calf strain, according to ESPN, a devastating blow for the Cavaliers. Mitchell was not listed as a starter for the team, neither was center Jarrett Allen, who has missed several games with a bruised rib.

Mitchell went into the postseason as Cleveland's leading scorer, and he's continued to be the reason why the team is in the conference semifinals for the first time since 2017-18. In the 2024 NBA playoffs, he's averaging 29.6 points per game along with 5.4 rebounds and 4.7 assists a game. He's been the leading scorer for the Cavs in the series against the Celtics, and in Saturday's Game 3 loss he scored 33 points.

Boston leads the best-of-seven-series 2-1 heading into Monday.
