Castlewood tops Big Stone, Milbank downs Sisseton and Redfield gets even with Groton

MILBANK — Milbank recorded 5-2 and 16-3 victories over Sisseton in an American Legion Baseball doubleheader on Thursday.

Milbank (3-2 overall) trailed 2-0 in the opener before erupting for five runs in the bottom of the sixth innings. The hosts scored seven runs in the second and eight in the third to complete the sweep in the five-inning second game.

Joe Schulte's three-run double in the sixth sparked Milbank in the opener. The hosts also scored on a passed ball and a single by Justus Osborn in the decisive inning. Schulte and Dillen Scheeley, which doubled, each finished with two hits. Tanner Hallquist added a double. Osborn earned the win in relief of Merik Junker, who fanned eight batters in xx innings.

Carter Stickland had two of Sisseton's four hits.

Schulte and Daniel Shelstad each had two hits and two RBIs in the second game for Milbank. Jace Jonason, who tripled, joined Nolen Scheely and Josh Pederson also had two RBIs. Owen Tesch contributed a double.

Pederson fanned 10 batters in the victory for Milbank, which visits Groton on Saturday.

Castlewood 7-10, Big Stone City 4-5

CASTLEWOOD — Two big innings propelled Castlewood (4-2) to the doubleheader sweep.

Castlewood snapped a 3-3 tie by scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth in the opener and erased a 5-1 deficit with a nine-run fourth inning in the second game.

Xander Sheehan, Quincy Thue and Lane Tvedt each doubled for Castlewood in the opener. Sheehan and Hunter Smith each drove in two runs to back a complete-game pitching performance by Kegan TvEDT.

Hunter Merritt singled and drove in two runs for Big Stone City (0-2), which also got a double from Isaac Kirchberg.

Kegan Tvedt drove in three runs with a double and a single and Lane Tvedt tripled and drove in three runs for Castlewood in the second game. Jeremiah Wiersma added a double and single. Brody Bass earned the win in relief of Dave Prohl.

Josh Mueller and Isaac Kirchberg each singled for Big Stone City, which plays at Milbank on Tuesday.

Redfield 8, Groton 4

REDFIELD — Keaton Rohlfs' two-run single and Nolan Gall's run-scoring single highlighted a four-run sixth that snapped a 4-4 tie for Redield.

Redfield (6-1) avenged a 5-4 loss to Groton on Sunday.,

Camden Osborn hit a double and two singles and Peyton Osborn, Gall and Seth Siebrecht each two singles for Redfield. Eli Morrissette earned the win with two shutout innings in relief of Peyton Osborn.

Bradin Althoff and Logan Ringgenberg each had run-scoring singles for Groton (4-5), which hosts Milbank on Saturday.

Redfield hosts Lake Norden on Monday.
