Castlewood Ravens and Milbank Firechiefs collect Eastern Dakota League amateur baseball wins

SIOUX FALLS — Sioux Falls East posted 2-1 and 9-6 wins over Watertown Post 17 in an American Legion Baseball doubleheader on Wednesday.

East won the opener on Tristan Fitzsimmons' bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh. East took control in the second game with a six-run second inning. After Watertown battle back to tie the game at 6-6, East broke the tie with a run in the fourth and added two more in the fifth.

The losses dropped Post 17 to 10-11 on the season.

In the opener, Post 17 took the lead on Jack Heesch's sacrifice fly in the first inning. East tied the game in the sixth on a groundout.

Drew Denzer went 3-for-4 with a double to lead Post 17's attack. Heesch and Will Engstrom added singles. Jackson Maag went the distance in the loss.

Jack Smith, who singled and came around to score the winning run in the seventh, had two hits for Sioux Falls East.

Denzer and Engstrom each doubled for Watertown in the second game. Ryan Roby and Heesch added singles. Justin Remmers took the loss.

Myles Rees collected three hits and drove in three runs for East.

Yankton 6-10, Aberdeen Smittys 5-6

YANKTON — Rugby Ryken's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted Yankton to a 3-2 win in the opener of an American Legion Baseball doubleheader against the Aberdeen Smittys on Wednesday.

Yankton also won the second game 10-6.

Aberdeen (6-5) forced extra innings in the opener on Ethan Kjenstad's run-scoring single in the top of the seventh. Jaiden Smith homered and Phillip Zens doubled in the game.

Isaiah Schelhaas had a two-run double and Lucas Kampshoff also doubled for Yankton.

Rugby and Mac Ryken and Schelhaas had two hits apiece for Yankton in the second game. Matthew Sheldon contributed a double.

Kjenstad plate two runs with a double and a single for Aberdeen.

Amateur Baseball

Castlewood Ravens 17, Elkton 4

CASTLEWOOD — The Castlewood Ravens scored nine runs in the first two innings and pounded out 15 hits in the Eastern Dakota League win.

Gus Stieger went 3-for-4 with a double, home runs, three runs scored and two runs batted in for the Ravens (2-0 overall and in the EDL.

Kellan Benck, Jared Urbach, Braedon Zaug and Hunter Lee each added two hits. Benck and Sam Stroup each doubled. Stroup and Brian Rieb finished with three RBIs each.

Benck went four innings and Urbach three on the mound for the Ravens, who host Volga at 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Milbank Firechiefs 8, Ramona Express 6

RAMONA — The Milbank Firechiefs dug out of an early hole to pull out the Eastern Dakota League game.

Ramona (0-2 overall and in the EDL) led 6-1 after two innings. Milbank kicked off its rally with four runs in the third and added single runs in the fourth, fifth and ninth innings.

Mitch Quade finished with three hits and Kellen Hoeke two for Milbank (2-0 and 2-0). Kaden Krause and Cam May each hit doubles. Brady Krause went the distance for the win, allowing 17 hits with 16 strikeouts.

Casey Renaas tallied four hits, Justin Casanova and Ryan Schlisner three each and Taylor Bult and Kadyn Gehrels two each for Ramona. Connor Libis and Casanova each doubled.
