Cast your vote for athlete of the week!

STURGIS — It's once again time for you to vote (probably more than once) for the Journal's athlete of the week. There are *considerably more* student athletes up for this week's award.

The nominees are taken from performances last week. If you'd like to nominate a student-athlete for the award, feel free to reach out to me via email at bwatson@gannett.com. You do not, however, have to email me on which student-athlete you'd like to cast a vote for this week. You can vote for them by doing so in the poll below.

Burr Oak's Brooklynn Root was voted athlete of the week for last week. Congratulations to her. She's once again up for the award this time as well.

Here are the nominees. To vote, you can click on the student-athlete you feel should win the award. You can vote as many times as you'd like.

London Hoffmaster, Three Rivers — Hoffmaster was pretty solid at the plate this past week. She clubbed a pair of base hits, five doubles, two home runs and knocked in 13 runs as Three Rivers went 7-0 on the week. The Cats swept Portage Northern, Plainwell and went 3-0 in the Upper Peninsula at the Escanaba invite.

Ava Forman, Three Rivers — Forman belted three home runs for Three Rivers last week. She also connected for 10 singles and seven doubles all while driving in 13 runs as Three Rivers went 7-0 on the week. The Cats swept Portage Northern, Plainwell and went 3-0 in the Upper Peninsula at the Escanaba invite.

Jennaya Decker, Three Rivers — Decker helped pitch Three Rivers to a perfect week. She won five times inside the circle and struck out 37 batters in those innings. At the plate, Decker hit four home runs a and three doubles while driving in a combined 11 runs.

Brookylnn Root, Burr Oak — Last week's winner. She led Burr Oak to eight victories this past week, striking out 63 hitters as the Bobcats swept Pittsford, Climax-Scotts, beat Colon and then picked up a home tournament title with wins over Cassopolis and North Adams. She finished with 10 singles, two doubles and 12 RBIs on the week.

Rowan Allen, Mendon — Allen threw a pair of no hitters this past week, beating Bellevue and Colon. The Hornets won all four games this past week and Allen struck out 20 in her two starts. She also clubbed five singles, a double and drove in seven runs.

Ashlynn Harris, Bronson — Harris picked up three wins for Bronson this week. She struck out 34 over that time and also was solid at the plate. Harris connected for five singles, four doubles, three triples and drove in four runs from the leadoff spot as Bronson finished with a 6-1 record on the week.

Mya Webb, Bronson — Webb picked up three wins for Bronson as well this week, including a no-hitter. She finished with eight singles, a double and seven runs driven in during the week, where Bronson played to a record of 6-1.

Rasean O'Tey, Sturgis — Rasean is probably the fastest student-athlete around these parts. He'll get a chance to stake that claim at the St. Joseph County All-Star meet later this month. Last week, O'Tey ran to first place in four events in one day — the 100 dash (11.21 seconds), the 200 dash (22.49 seconds) and was a part of the winning relays in the 400 (43.83 seconds) and mile (3:34.91).

Sturgis girl's 800 relay — It was another record-breaking performance for Sturgis track last week. This time, the 800 relay team of Tenley Banaszak, Hannah Garbine, Adison Nettleman and Keyanna O'Tey ran a time of 1:45.65 to take first place against Niles and Edwardsburg.

Jordan Pisco, White Pigeon — Pisco had a pretty good week. He set the White Pigeon record in the 110 hurdles at 15.04 seconds, breaking the record held by Mark Granning (1972) and Todd Burnham (1992). He also broke the school record in the 300 hurdles on Saturday, running at time of 41.16 seconds and breaking Burnham's record again. Pisco was also named the most outstanding athlete at the Centreville Invitational, winning three events.

Voting for Athlete of the Week is open until Thursday at 11 a.m.
