Carmelo Anthony shares how LeBron James saved his life at sea 'like he’s MacGyver'

The Banana Boat Crew ran into some trouble at sea that could have turned deadly if it weren’t for LeBron James.

Portland Trail Blazers forward Carmelo Anthony was on Instagram Live with Dwyane Wade on Friday when he divulged that James saved his life while the three were on vacation years ago. Wade’s wife, actress Gabrielle Union, fortunately pushed the two NBA stars to share the story with everyone.

The incident began when they jumped off the boat and swam to the grotto. Anthony stayed back to watch barracudas, he said, but the current began to take him away from the boat and into the ocean.

“We couldn’t even see you!” Wade added.

“I look up at the boat and I see Bron jump off the boat like he’s MacGyver,” Anthony said.

Wade compared it to the 2006 Nike commercial featuring “The LeBrons” at the swimming pool. The marketing campaign featured different versions of James. In this particular clip, “Business LeBron” accepts the challenge to dive into the pool and does so masterfully.

But back to the life-saving moment at hand.

“He jumped off the boat into the water,” Anthony said. “He was bringing me back with one arm. He's swimming with one arm and he's carrying me with the other arm."

Both Wade and Anthony, now able to laugh about it, gave a shoutout to James for his life-saving maneuvers.

“Yo, Bron, I appreciate that,” Anthony added. “You saved my life that day. Them little flippers wasn't working for me.”

Anthony, Wade, James and Chris Paul famously took a trip to the Bahamas together in 2015 where the latter three were photographed on a banana boat with Union. It’s unclear if this was the trip of the MacGyver moment.
