Cardinals collapse in second half of loss to Rams

The Arizona Cardinals were outscored 20-0 in the second half of a 26-9 loss to the L.A. Rams on Sunday.

Arizona's only points came from a trio of field goals from Matt Prater in the first half.

Josh Dobbs was 21-for-41 passing for 235 yards. He threw one interception and fumbled once. Dobbs also carried the ball seven times for 47 yards.

Keaontay Ingram and Damien Williams shared carries with Ingram taking 10 for 40 yards and Williams running eight times for 35 yards.

Rams QB Matthew Stafford was 15-for-24 for 226 yards and a touchdown. Kyren Williams ran 20 times for 158 yards and a touchdown. Cooper Kupp had seven catches for 148 yards and a touchdown.

Cardinals struggling down the stretch

The Cardinals have not performed well in the fourth quarter this season.

Sunday hasn't been any different.

The Cardinals were intercepted on their first possession of the quarter. That led to a touchdown by the Rams. It was a 14-point swing as Arizona was inside the Rams 20 when Josh Dobbs' pass was intercepted.

The Rams used 12 plays to cover 88 yards for the touchdown. They have now outscored Arizona 20-0 since midway through the second quarter.

The Cardinals second possession of the quarter ended with a Dobb fumble at the Arizona 33.

Rams score 13 unanswered points

Brett Maher's third field goal of the game gave the L.A. Rams a 16-9 lead over the Arizona Cardinals.

The Cardinals led 9-3 in the second quarter.

While Rams QB Matthew Stafford and his receivers have started clicking, the Cardinals has struggled to get anything going. Arizona has just five plays of greater than 10 yards — two of them scrambles from Josh Dobbs.

Arizona's longest play has been a 24-yard Dobbs scramble.

Meanwhile, Stafford has completed passes of 30 yards to Tutu Atwell and 49 yards to Cooper Kupp. Kyren Williams has a pair of carries for more than 10 yards, including a 31-yard run.

Rams off and running in second half

Ten plays into the second half, the Rams took the lead.

The first nine plays of the half were runs. The 10th was a 13-yard pass from Matthew Stafford to Cooper Kupp.

The nine running plays accounted for 62 yards. In the entire first half, the Rams rushed the ball just three times for a total of 5 yards.

In their first possession of the second half, the Cardinals were held to just 3 yards. Following a Blake Gillikin punt and a penalty against the Rams, L.A. begins at its won 14.

Cardinals-Rams combine for 5 field goals in first half

Josh Dobbs is showing what he can do with his legs. Twice against the Rams, he scrambled for a gain of at least 20 yards. The first came on the Cardinals first drive. The second came late in the second quarter.

Facing a third-and-13, Dobbs scrambled for a pickup of 20 yards. That play kept the ball moving for the Cardinals. Arizona got another boost when a face mask penalty was called against the Rams during a sack of Dobbs. Instead of a loss, the play moved the ball 15 yards for the Cardinals.

A pair of Keaontay Ingram runs moved the ball inside the 10.

Matt Prater kicked his third field goal — this one from 27 yards — with 43 seconds left in the half.

In those 43 seconds, the Rams were able to move the ball up to the Arizona 17 before Brett Maher kicked a 35-yard field goal.

The Rams will receive to start the second half.

Cardinals punt and Rams fumble

The Arizona Cardinals were forced to punt, but thanks to a Rams fumble, they ended up with good field position.

The Cardinals punted from their own 40, but recovered on the Rams 17. The recovery was made by DB Bobby Price.

Quarterback Josh Dobbs remained out of sync with his receivers. He was 1-for-3 passing for 3 yards before Matt Prater entered on fourth down to kick a 32-yard field goal.

Cardinals-Rams tied after first quarter

A sack on third down proved to be costly for the Cardinals.

Arizona was facing a third-and-2 at the LA 40, but Josh Dobbs was sacked for a 13-yard loss that pushed the team out of field goal position.

On fourth down, Blake Gillikin punted 41 yards, only to make the tackle on Austin Trammell after a return of 29 yards.

The Rams began their second series of the game at their own 41. A 37-yard pass from Matthew Stafford to Cooper Kupp helped move the Rams up to the Arizona 11. Repeated passes to the end zone fell incomplete and the Rams settled for a field goal of their own.

Arizona will start the second quarter with a first-and-10 at its on 41.

Kicking it off

The Rams won the coin toss and deferred to the second half, so the Arizona Cardinals received the opening kick.

Keaontay Ingram, in for injured James Conner, got the ball on the first offensive play of the game.

Facing a third-and-10, Cardinals quarterback Joshua Dobbs scrambled for 24 yards. Ingram picked up another 12 before the drive stalled.

Matt Prater put the Cardinals on the board with a 55-yard field goal.

The Rams possession lasted five plays and covered 25 yards before a punt returned the ball to the Cardinals.
