Cardinals open for business for trades in 2024 NFL draft

Arizona Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort proved himself last year willing to make deals during the NFL draft. With the fourth pick in the 2024 draft, Ossenfort is not set on making the pick. He is open for business.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday at the teams training facility in Tempe, he said there would be “a big neon sign that says ‘open.'”

“We’re always going to be listening,” he said. “I think we’ll always have the conversation, we may not get to a point where a deal makes sense, whether it’s at (pick No.) 4 or anywhere we’re picking, but we’re always going to have the conversation and if it makes sense, if it’s attractive to building our team, then it’s something that we’ll certainly consider no matter where we’re at in the draft.”

As of right now, it looks like it will be an easy selection, taking Ohio State receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. However, it looked that easy last year with the third overall pick and pass rusher Will Anderson on the board. However, they traded back to No. 12 and then moved up to No. 6 to select tackle Paris Johnson, acquiring an extra first-round pick for this draft.

Not long ago, he said that there have not been any trade talks but he expects calls to come.

“I’d say those phone calls are starting to pick up a little bit, I would say they’ll probably continue into next week when we get down to Florida for the owner’s meetings,” he said. “I think most teams are in a similar spot to us, and starting to finalize their boards, and the pro day pieces are kinda the final on-field piece for evaluation purposes. So I would imagine some of those conversations will continue to pick up, but honestly they probably will not get real serious until we get right up until the week of the draft, similar to last year. They have definitely picked up, but I expect that to continue here for the next month.”

A potential trade partner could be the Minnesota Vikings, who have two first-round picks after a trade.

It will be something to pay attention to next month when the Cardinals are on the clock.
