Cardinals, Eagles settle tampering claim over Jonathan Gannon, agree to NFL draft trade

The Arizona Cardinals and Philadelphia Eagles agreed to swap their third-round picks in the 2023 NFL draft to settle the issue of the Cardinals’ impermissible contact with new coach Jonathan Gannon following the NFC championship game last February.

The Cardinals will now pick at No. 94, while the Eagles will pick at No. 66 in the third round on Friday night because of the illegal tampering, announced by both teams on Thursday night before the first round of the draft.

The settlement also includes a fifth-round pick Philadelphia will send Arizona in 2024.

“The Cardinals self-reported to the National Football League that General Manager Monti Ossenfort had a phone conversation with then-Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon in the days following the NFC Championship Game, a period during which contact is not permitted under the League's Anti-Tampering Policy,” the statement read.

Gannon was hired as Cardinals coach on Feb. 14, one day after the Eagles lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 57.

The Cardinals also own the No. 3 pick in the first round of the draft Thursday night, a pick that has been subject to trade rumors during the offseason.
