CAPE COD SPORTS: Jordan's goal helps Sandwich field hockey remain undefeated

Quinn Jordan's lone goal of the game kept the Sandwich (12-0-1) girls field hockey team unbeaten on the season with a 1-0 win over Barnstable (9-3-2) on Monday. The Blue Knights are 7-0 in League games and shut out their ninth team of the season.

Field Hockey

Westport 3, St. John Paul II 0: The Lions (10-2-2) suffered their first loss since the season opener. Maren Jones and Erin Hatton played well for JPII.

Dennis-Yarmouth 1, Scituate 0: Megan McDowell scored the lone goal in the second quarter with an assist by Charleigh Hicks for the Dolphins (6-7-2). Lily Anderson, Jenna Richard and Alaina Manuel played well in midfield to secure the shutout.

Falmouth 3, Martha’s Vineyard 0: Avery Johnsen scored twice and added one assist for the Clippers (8-3-3) in a win over the Vineyarders (0-6-3).

Carver 6, Mashpee 2: Ava Theodorides (first quarter), and Ciara Hendricks (third quarter) each scored a goal for the Falcons (2-10-1). Ayesha Shafi had nine saves in goal.

Monomoy 6, Sturgis East 0: The Sharks (10-2-2) picked up their fifth shutout as they beat the Storm (2-5-3). Sam Clarke and Susannah Brown each had a brace, while Ella Reeves and Kate Huse each netted a goal for the Sharks. Assists came from Emery Cappallo (2), Emily Layton (2), Sam Clarke (1) and Tessa Grodzicki (1).

Girls Volleyball

Dennis-Yarmouth 3, Nantucket 2: The Dolphins (8-7) beat the Whalers (8-5) in five sets (25-20, 26-24, 21-25, 24-26, 15-1). Aeva DaBreo (nine kills, three blocks), and Mariah Eaton (14 kills, five blocks) each had good games on both offense and defense for D-Y. Ryann Johnson had 12 kills, Ellen Swanson contributed 36 digs and three aces, and Vivian Castano dished out 38 assists.

Chloe Marrero led the Whalers offense with 19 kills, while Yahely del Rosario Gomez added 23 assists. Viktoria Todorova led the defense with 35 digs.

Sandwich 3, Middleboro 0: The Blue Knights (7-6) won in straight sets (25-19, 25-16, 26-24). Mia Mulcahy had 16 assists, while Ella McCabe chipped in four aces and eight kills. Alanna Schreibeis finished with three aces and three kills, and Grace Loewen played on the outside and contributed five kills along with some good digs in the back row.

Barnstable 3, Winchester 0: The Red Hawks (13-2) won in straight sets (25-15, 25-15, 25-17). Charlotte Sullivan led the offense with 10 kills, while Molly Fredo added nine kills. Molly Gleason finished with five kills and eight digs, Dylan Andrews had five kills and four blocks, while Sadie Wellbeloved contributed 29 assists, seven digs and two aces. Logan Hurwitz had a game-high of 14 digs, and Teagan Geraghty chipped in three aces.

St. John Paul II 3, Sturgis West 2: The Lions (11-3) beat the Navigators (6-4) in a five-set match (25-11, 26-24, 24-26, 22-25, 15-9). Molly Pulit was a force on defense with 48 digs, while Molly Murphy (11 digs) and Jillian Perry (nine digs) also contributed for the Lions. Rosanna Sullivan finished with five aces, 12 kills and 25 digs, and Charlotte Sturgis added two kills, one block, and five digs.

Wareham 3, Upper Cape 0: Ella Kerrigan played well on defense, and good service points came from Emma King and Danielle Lauar for the Rams (0-15).

Cape Tech 3, Monomoy 0: The Crusaders (11-4) ended a two-game slide with a sweep over the Sharks (1-11).

GNBVT 3, Bourne 1: After winning the first set, the Canalmen lost in four sets as Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School won (25-16, 22-25, 21-25, 23-25). Bourne's Elena Timo had nine kills, Sofia Halunen added 10 kills and 19 assists, while Nola Timo finished with six kills and 12 digs. Defensively, Lily Russell had 33 digs, while Michaela Muldoon had 28 digs.

Girls Soccer

Barnstable 0, Dennis-Yarmouth 0: The Red Hawks (0-10-1) and the Dolphins (1-22-1) each picked up their first draws of the season. Ludmila Lopes had some good foot skills at the midfield position, and Molly Young had a lot of minutes with her aggressiveness and endurance for D-Y.

Hull 8, Mashpee 3: Sierra Yohannan, Izzy Almeida and Hailey Garcia each scored a goal for the Falcons (3-9).

Sturgis East 4, Rising Tide 1: The Storm (7-5) have won four of their last five games.

Atlantis Charter 2, Cape Tech 2: The Crusaders (1-10-1) had their best offensive game of the season in the draw.

Norwell 5, Sandwich 0: The Blue Knights (7-5-2) were shut out for the first time this season.

GNBVT 4, Bourne 3: The Canalmen (8-6-1) have dropped their last two after a three-game winning streak.

Boys Soccer

GNBVT 3, Bourne 0: Freshman Landon Hope, senior defense Dom Quelle and Jacob Roux each finished with four blocked shots, while goalkeeper Nathan Reynolds had seven saves for the Canalmen (1-9-2).

Mashpee 2, Hull 0: The Falcons (4-8-1) snapped a three-game losing streak with the win. In the 20th minute, senior Lucas Dehelean took a corner kick for Mashpee, which a Hull defender knocked in. In the second half, junior defender Michael McGrail cleared the ball from deep in his own end to senior Thanos Pavlo, who trapped the ball, slipped past a defender and buried a shot from 25 yards out. Preston Joia played well in goal with 12 saves, while defender Brody Perry played well on defense.

Atlantis Charter 2, Cape Tech 0: The Crusaders (5-7-2) snapped a three-game win streak.

Boys Golf:

Bourne 241, West Bridgewater 285: Ryan Burgess shot a 37, while Luca Finton followed up with a 39 to lead the Canalmen (11-5). Griffin Kelly (40), Brett Lucier (41), Trevor Billard (42), and Ryan Sullivan (42) all placed in the top six.

Sandwich 230, Martha’s Vineyard 259: The Blue Knights (11-4) picked up the win over the Vineyarders (4-7).
