CAPE COD HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Monomoy field hockey wins, Cape Tech soccer loses, more

With 38 assists in Barnstable girls volleyball's five set win over Newton North (25-21, 20-25, 25-18, 17-25, 16-14), setter Sadie Wellbeloved eclipsed 1,000 career assists.

In addition to the 38 assists, she tallied nine digs, two aces and two blocks. In the decisive fifth set, Barnstable's Jazzy Coyer had an ace to put the Red Hawks up 15-14. The Red Hawks would take the next point to win the match.

Molly Gleason led the way with 17 kills, to go along with 15 digs, while Molly Fredo added 13 kills. Charlotte Sullivan eight kills, four digs, two aces, and two blocks, Logan Hurwitz led the defensive effort with 20 digs and added two aces. The win takes the Red Hawks to 10-2.

Volleyball

Falmouth 3, Sandwich 0: The Clippers (6-6) swept the Blue Knights (25-13, 25-22, 25-8). Christina Femino kept the offense in rhythm, dishing out 17 assists while also adding a pair of kills, and a pair of aces. Azaria Viall had eight digs, and Maggie McLean had five kills, two blocks and two aces.

Medfield, 3, Bourne 0: The Lady Canalmen suffered their first loss of the season (24-26, 11-25, 22-25), falling to 13-1. sisters Elena and Nola Timo combined for 13 kills, and Lily Russell had 24 digs.

Mashpee 3, Sturgis East 2: Stacey Santos sealed the five set win for Mashpee (5-5) over Sturgis East (3-6).

Boys Soccer

St. John Paul II 0, Dennis-Yarmouth 0: The Lions (3-4-3), and the Dolphins (4-5-1), split the points. Gabriel Paiva kept the clean sheet in goal for the Lions, and both Cody Boghdan and Henry Roy played well defensively. Head coach Kal Boghdan said Nico Sullivan "displayed exceptional control in the midfield."

Falmouth Academy 2, Cape Tech 1: The Mariners (4-4-1) overturned a 1-0 deficit to beat Cape Tech (2-6-2) and snap a two-game losing streak. Falmouth Academy equalized after Fletcher Parsons was fouled inside the box, and Marcus Greco converted the penalty. Mike Saganic scored the game-winning goal in the second half. Goalkeeper Jaden Elber came up with a crucial one-on-one save late in the second half.

Upper Cape 10, Bristol Aggie 4: Jadon Barton scored a hat trick, and Gideon Drury had a hat trick of assists, as the Rams improved to 8-1-1 on the season. Ryan Besse (two goals), Dimitrios Bairaktaris, Liam McInerney, Tyler Weston, Lucas Sherman, and Drury all found the back of the net.

Boston International 4, Barnstable 2: The Red Hawks drop to 4-2-3.

Girls Soccer

Falmouth Academy 6, Cape Tech 0: Faye McGuire scored twice to lead the Mariners (4-5) to the win over the Crusaders (0-8). Willow Lajoie, Sylvie Parsons, Sophia Famely and Thalia O'Neil all scored in the win.

Notre Dame Academy-Hing 7, Nantucket 0: The Whalers (4-7) lost on their home field.

Football

Mashpee 32, Martha's Vineyard 8: The Falcons (4-1) won their fourth game of the season, using their fourth different starting quarterback: Chase Weinstein got the start and threw for 180 yards and a touchdown to Ethan Costa. He also rushed for 125 yards and added two scores on the ground. Ryan Triveri had a 45-yard touchdown run, and Makai Hue added a rushing touchdown. Kaio DeCosta found Jordan Souza for a 45-yard touchdown catch for the Vineyarders (2-3) only score.

Barnstable 14, Nauset 0 (forfeit): The Red Hawks remain unbeaten at 5-0 with a forfeit by the Warriors (0-5).

Abington 21, Sandwich 2: The Blue Knights (2-3) came up short at home. The offense was lead by Adam Ferreira, who threw for over 100 yards, while Gabe Ouellette rushed for over 40 yards and had one catch for 12 yards.

Defense was lead by Nolan Cochran with one sack and five tackles, while Stephen Trombly chipped in six tackles. Jack O'Brien added four tackles, Lincoln Shinn finished with one interception.

Dennis-Yarmouth 48, Nantucket 7: Jayden Barber completed 13 of his 17 passes for 267 and four touchdowns to lead the Dolphins (4-1) to a win over the Whalers (1-4). Peyton Kellett had five receptions for 110 yards and two scores, while Walter Mayo added 2 catches for 81 yards and one touchdown.

South Shore 42, Cape Tech 6: The Crusaders (2-2) had a 63-yard rushing touchdown from senior Rovens Jean-Baptiste for their only score of the game. Sophomore Kayden Belair added a 45-yard reception.

Wareham 30, Upper Cape 0: The Rams (0-5) were shutout.

Dartmouth 48, Falmouth 0: The Clippers (1-4) lost at home.

Field Hockey

Barnstable 2, Dennis-Yarmouth 1: Alexa Garthee and Chloe Egan both scored to lead the Red Hawks (8-2-1) past the Dolphins (4-5-2). Ally McEneaney had the assist for Garthee's goal, and both Carly Steenstra and Bridget Bedenkop aided McEneaney in leading the defense.

Sandwich 3, Hingham 1: The Blue Knights stay undefeated behind goals from Quinn Jordan, Meghan Dwyer, Khloe Schultz. Jordan also added an assist in the win, and Sandwich improves to 11-0.

Monomoy 1, Falmouth 0: The Sharks stay undefeated, improving to 8-0-2. Freshman Sage Harrison scored the game winning goal with 18 seconds left. Gabby Ferreira made 17 saves for Falmouth (6-3-1)

Nauset 3, Bridgewater-Raynham 1: The Warriors improve to 4-5-2 on the season.
