Cape Cod Baseball League roundup: Brewster wins third straight game

The Brewster Whitecaps (9-11-2) won their third straight game, and moved level on points with the Orleans Firebirds in third place in the East Division, following a 12-6 win over the Harwich Mariners (11-11) on Thursday. The Whitecaps did their scoring in bunches, first hanging five runs in the second inning, before plating five more in the fourth. Mason White (University of Arizona) had a 2-for-4 evening, and got the scoring started in the second inning with an RBI single. Peyton Green (NC State) added to the rally with a two-RBI single later in the inning, and two batters later, Will Turner (South Alabama) capped the five-run inning of with a two-RBI single of his own.

Josh Pearson (LSU) had a bases-clearing double in the fourth inning to start Brewster's second offensive explosion. He then came around to score on Florida State's James Tibbs' two-run blast. Army's Derek Berg had a home run, pair of RBIs and a pair of runs scored.

Harwich was led by Duke's Devin Obee at the plate. Obee finished 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Virginia's Ethan Anderson also had a home run, and Ali Camarillo had a pair of hits, and two runs scored in the loss.

Wareham Gatemen 9, Bourne Braves 8

The Gatemen (9-11-2), bounced back from Wednesday's one-run, walk-off loss to the Braves (12-9-1), to hand out a one-run loss of their own, and snap the Braves four game win streak. West Virginia's Grant Hussey, and Georgia's Sebastian Murillo led the way for Wareham in the win. Hussey went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, and a first inning RBI single. Murillo had a two-run home run as part of a four-run inning in the first inning. Louisville's Will Koger picked up the save after going 2.1 innings and only allowing a run.

For Bourne, Derek Bender (Coastal Carolina) did a little bit of everything to help his team. The junior reached base four times, swiped three bases, and drove in a pair of runs. Iowa sophomore Sam Petersen went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, and four stolen bases. In total, the Braves stole 11 bases, helping them stay in the game.

Falmouth Commodores 12, Cotuit Kettleers 3

Nathan Humphrey (Dallas Baptist) had three hits and three RBIs to lead the Commodores (9-12-2) past the Kettleers (15-7) in a resumption of Tuesday's suspended game. All three of his RBIs came on one swing of the bat, when he cleared the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning. Oregon State's Travis Bazzana also had a big day at the dish, hitting a solo home run to give the Commodores the lead in the third inning, added an RBI single in the fifth, and also scored three runs. In total, seven different Commodores recorded at least one RBI, and eight different Commodores crossed the plate. University of West Alabama's Jacob Smith got the "start" for Falmouth and pitched 3.2 innings, and only allowed a single run, while he struck out six in his first appearance this season.

Penn State senior Grant Norris made his season debut for the Kettleers, and marked the occasion with a two run home run. Emilien Pitre (Kentucky) went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
