Canadian dominates Randall in statement football victory

The Canadian football team came into Canyon on Thursday and made one heck of a statement.

The Wildcats scored three touchdowns in the opening five minutes, 35 points in the opening quarter, and gained 522 yards in the first half while holding Randall to 71. It amounted to a 69-28 victory for the Wildcats.

It was the Camren Cavalier show once again as he went for 10-of-14 for 268 yards and four touchdowns passing while running for 173 yards and a touchdown on five carries. Credit Luke Flowers (two catches for 80 yards and a score) and Preston Neumeier (three catches for 127 yards and two touchdowns).

"Things went good for us tonight for sure," head coach Andy Cavalier said. "When things are working out and successful to where we can keep the pace moving I think we're as good as anybody out there."

The defense was outstanding in holding the Raiders to 79 yards on the ground in the game, of which 31 yards came on a scoring run with 37 seconds remaining by Randall's Tryston Sanchez.

"That was the best I've ever seen us," linemen Nathan Wagner said. "If we keep on the rise, there's no telling what we'll be able to do five weeks from now."

The third and fourth quarters were eight minutes in length after both head coaches agreed to speed up the second half. Canadian (5-0) put their reserves in during the second half as Randall (3-3) was able to make it a bit more respectable in the shortened second half. The Raiders finished with more than 300 passing yards with the second half effort.

The Wildcats entered the evening ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 3A Division II. They certainly looked like it Thursday night.

Next week will see Randall visit Dumas while Canadian hosts Childress.
