Cam Johnson to undergo surgery for torn meniscus

Former UNC basketball and current Phoenix Suns wing Cam Johnson will miss an extended period of time, the Suns announced on Sunday.

Johnson, who suffered a torn meniscus earlier this week, is set to undergo surgery in the near future, keeping him out of the lineup for the near future.

The 6-foot-8 forward was in the midst of a career year this season as a full-time starter. Before his injury, Johnson was averaging 14.9 points and shooting 44 percent from three.

Johnson is coming off of a terrific season last year where he was a finalist for the NBA Sixth Man of the Year.

The former Tar Heels’ wing is in his fourth-year on the Suns after getting selected with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

There is no clear timeline for his return, but in order for the Suns to reach the goals they have, Johnson’s health is clearly a key part of those aspirations.
