Calvary girls rout Eukarya, 4-0, in opener

Mar. 27—STEPHENS CITY, Va. — Selah Livengood had a cleansheet in goal, and Dana Baker scored twice to lead Calvary to a 4-0 win at Eukarya Christian Academy on Tuesday.

Calvary (1-0) controlled possession in the first half but didn't break through until the second when a free kick from Allie Scritchfield from midfield resulted in a score by freshman Reagan Weeks at the 44:37 mark.

Baker, an eighth grader, accounted for the Eagles' next two goals, both unassisted. The first, at the 50:27 mark, came from just outside the penalty box. With 53:13 on the clock, Baker beat her defender and slid the ball just out of Elizabeth Butcher's reach to make it 3-0.

Scritchfield concluded the scoring at the 74:15 mark when eighth-grader Lauren Engle fed a pass between two defenders to the senior captain, who drilled a shot from 25 yards out over the keeper's hands.

Calvary had a 14-9 edge in shots and 9-2 on corner kicks. Livengood made seven saves, and Butcher made eight stops.
