Calvary’s Aubrey Hermes tops Week 15 Shreveport Times Football Athlete of the Week voting

Calvary’s Aubrey Hermes garnered enough votes this week to win the Times online poll for Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission and Cosse and Silmon Orthodontics.

A talented receiver for the Cavaliers, Hermes becomes the fifth Calvary winner in the football poll for the 2023-24 school year. He joins Lake Bates and Trysten Hopper, along with Byrd’s Malachi Johnson and Airline’s Jayden Gladney, as winners in the weekly poll.

Hermes and his supporters racked up 21,714 votes, a solid 48.2% of the 45,089 votes cast in the weekly online recognition. Those numbers allowed Hermes to top a field of five additional candidates, including North DeSoto’s Lincoln Hooper, who made a strong run for the recognition with 14,938 votes (33.1%).

Hermes will receive a duffle bag, a boxed lunch combo and some additional swag courtesy of Raising Cane’s and Cosse and Silmon.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Hermes is a returning LSWA All-State player for the Cavaliers now with four years of experience in the system. He will play for a second state championship Saturday night in the Caesar’s Superdome.

“Aubrey is a great route runner who wins all 50-50 balls,” Calvary coach Rodney Guin said. “Late in his freshman year, he really turned it on making some big catches in the state title game. He’s only gotten better since.”

Others on the 15th and final football ballot the school year were Kentavious Watts, Haynesville; Cratelyn Henderson, Logansport; Peyton Bell, Ruston and Braxton Patterson, Union Parish.

They were chosen because of their performance the previous week or because their names were submitted by their coach. The Times poll is posted each Monday at shreveporttimes.com with a new slate of student-athletes in high school sports other than football.
