California point guard commits to UNM women

Oct. 5—After signing a taller recruiting class for 2023-24, the University of New Mexico women's basketball team is taking a shot at quickness.

Reza Po, a 5-3 senior point guard at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Pacifica, California, verbally committed this week to play at UNM starting in 2024-25. Po announced her decision on X (formerly Twitter) after making a campus visit in September.

Po, who also plays flag football at Sacred Heart Cathedral, did not play AAU basketball until this summer when she competed for California Ballaz and became a late riser on the recruiting scene. A left-hander who excels from 3-point range, Po was named All-Bay Area by San Francisco-area sports media last season when she helped the Irish to a 21-6 record.

As a junior, Po averaged 12.2 points, 3.8 assists (a 2.26-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio) and 1.6 steals per game.

As a flag football wide receiver, she was recently nominated for Bay Area Girls Prep Player of the Week honors after catching two touchdown passes in SHC's first flag football win of the season.

Po posted: "Excited and grateful to announce that i've committed to the University Of New Mexico! #golobos"

Her announcement included a compilation of clips from her youth basketball and prep careers along with video of her in a Lobos jersey.

Po is UNM's first and perhaps only prep commitment this fall as the Lobos currently have just one scholarship available for next season.

Coach Mike Bradbury confirmed his team is recruiting Po. NCAA rules prohibit coaches from otherwise commenting on unsigned players.
