C-F baseball and softball earn wins against Litchfield and Waldron

Despite the lack of games between county opponents this season, things got back on track for most programs to start May as the weather cleared up for a nice slate of doubleheaders. The Litchfield Terrier baseball team took on Camden-Frontier in league play. Both programs are vying for a chance to make runs in the conference and the postseason. The matchup played out as expected between two SCAA contenders. The Camden-Frontier softball team took on a scrappy Waldron team in a league doubleheader. The two teams split their contests.

Camden-Frontier softball splits with Waldron

Things came down to the wire for Waldron softball in game one. Despite a 12-7 lead, the Camden-Frontier softball team made things close in their two final innings at-bat. However, winning pitcher Jena Fellabaum was able to close out the game with her teammates to earn the 12-11 victory. The senior struck out one batter and gave up eight hits and 11 runs.

It was a night of doubleheaders for Camden-Frontier. Rylee Mckitterick had two doubles and three total hits, three RBI and two runs. Annabelle Corkle also had a double-base hit and multiple runs. Corkle had two hits, two RBI and two runs. Jazmyn Johnson had two hits, two RBI and one run. One of those hits was a double. June Best scored two runs and had an RBI. Jaden Clark had an RBI and a run. Lexus Sigler scored two runs. Regan Schaedler had one run. Karlee Mckibbin had one hit. Earning stolen bases were Sigler, Best, Johnson and Schaedler. Alisyn Friskney pitched for C-F, earning six strikeouts while giving up five hits and 12 runs. Friskney threw 163 pitches according to Waldron's stats.

Despite having less hits, the 13 walks for Waldron helped send runners home efficiently. Kailee Kurtz had a double-base hit and two runs. Morgan Burk had one run. Emma Wines had an RBI and three runs. Fellabaum had two hits and two RBI. Dezirae Gomez had a run. Mackenzie Burk had one hit and two runs. Madison Brockway had one RBI. Haylee Shamplo had one RBI and Mackenzie Leininger had one hit and one run. Payton Fuller, Leininger and Gomez each had a stolen base.

Game two was a much different story for both teams. Camden-Frontier had an excellent pitching effort from Rylee Mckitterick in game two. Mckitterick had four strikeouts while giving up three hits and three runs. The C-F bats continued to roll and the Spartans were unable to stop them in the 16-3 final.

June Best had one hit and three runs. Jazmyn Johnson had two hits, one RBI and three runs. Lexus Sigler had one hit, two RBI and four runs. Jaden Clark had two hits (one double), five RBI and one run. Reagan Schaedler had one hit, two RBI and two runs. Harlee Groves had one RBI. Tydann Cooney had an RBI and a run. Mckitterick had two hits and three RBI. Alisyn Friskney had one hit and a run. McKibben had one run. Best had two stolen bases. Sigler and Schaedler each recorded one.

Kailee Kurtz and Jena Fellabaum pitched game two for the Spartans. They each recorded a strikeout. Kurtz had two runs. Morgan Burk had a base hit. Emma Wines had an RBI, two stolen bases and a run. Fellabaum had one hit and an RBI. Dezirae Gomez had one base hit.

Camden-Frontier baseball sweeps Waldron

Before diving into the close rollercoaster between the Terriers and C-F, the team had a doubleheader against Waldron on Thursday. C-F swept the Spartans 11-0 and 15-1.

The C-F no-hitter was a group effort. Beau Groves recorded the win. He only pitched just under two innings, striking out four batters. Rodney Weir pitched two innings and had five strikeouts. Luis Thilo had three strikeouts to close the game. Spartan pitcher Troy Shamplo had three strikeouts.

Dawson Shaw had one hit and one run. Kaiden Conroy had one hit, one RBI and a run. Brayden Miller had one hit and a run. Groves had two hits, one RBI and two runs. Aarien Sanders had three hits, two RBI and two runs. One of those hits was a double. Weir had one hit and two runs. Zach Franks had one run. Wade Brown had two hits, three RBI and one run. Brown also had three stolen bases. Shaw matched that number with three of his own. Weir had two stolen bases. Franks, Conroy, Miller and Groves each had a stolen base.

Game two resulted in a 15-1 win for Camden-Frontier. Frank Duelo scored the lone run for the Spartans. Alec Shamplo pitched the game for the Spartans, striking out two batters. Camden-Frontier had another group of pitchers throw a no-hitter. Shaw had three strikeouts. Miller had three strikeouts. Thilo had two strikeouts. Wade Brown had one strikeout.

The team had 13 hits and 10 RBI. Brown, Conroy and Sanders each had a double base hit. Miller had four steals, Weir with two, Groves with two, Conroy with two and Brown with one.

To recap the top hitters, Alex Hall had three hits, one RBI and two runs. Rodney Weir had two hits, one RBI and two runs. Miller had two hits, two RBI and two runs. Conroy had two hits and four runs. Beau Groves had two RBI and a run.

Litchfield and Camden-Frontier play a close doubleheader

The Terriers and C-F battled for every run, hit and strikeouts in C-F's 8-7 win in game one. Groves pitched the first two and a half innings, striking out six and giving up six runs. Miller would relief pitch the rest of the way, earning the win and striking out nine batters. He gave up just two hits and a run. Groves had zero hits given up.

Litchfield also had a strong pitching effort from starter Junior Alvarez, who struck out 10 while giving up three hits and seven runs. Tyler Bills pitched the final part of the seventh inning, striking out one and giving up two hits and one run.

Litchfield led most of the way, earning six runs in the first three innings. Camden-Frontier had three runs in the first inning but could not find another score until the bottom of the fifth. Camden-Frontier came back and took the lead with four runs. Litchfield tied the game on pop fly error that sent Simon Colins home. At the bottom of the seventh inning, senior Wade Brown got on base for Camden-Frontier. A single base hit from Brayden Miller sent him into scoring position at third. Aarien Sanders would then have an RBI single that sent Wade Brown home for the walk off run.

Brown had three runs in the contest. Conroy scored a run. Miller led the team with two hits, two RBI and two runs. Sanders had one hit and one run. Jake Fackler had one hit. Rodney Weir had one hit and a run. Zach Franks had one run.

Wesley Wilson had two runs for the Terriers. Tyler Bills had one RBI and a run. Alvarez had one hit and one run. Hunter Snyder had a double-base hit and one RBI. Simon Collins had one RBI. Brandon Campbell had one run. Wesley Wilson had two stolen bases. Simon Collins matched that number. Snyder, Bills, Logan Buehrle, Pedroza and Alvarez each had one stolen base.

Limited daylight ended the second game at the bottom of the sixth inning. C-F managed to score the game winning run at the top of the inning to stretch their lead to 2-0. Litchfield finally got on the board thanks to an error and then a walk that sent Bills home from third base in the bottom of the sixth. However, a strikeout from Shaw and then a flyout would end the game.

Shaw earned the win with an impressive pitching performance that included 11 strikeouts and only one hit allowed. Miller pitched the final fly out of the game. Wade Brown had one hit and one run. Beau Groves had one double-base hit and an RBI. Sanders scored a run and had two stolen base. Miller, Brown and Jake Fackler each had a stolen base.

Tyler Bills pitched an impressive six innings for the Terriers, striking out five and allowing just two hits and two runs. Of the 87 pitches he threw, he had 61 strikes. Tyler Bills had one run. Hunter Snyder had one hit and an RBI. Bills and Miguel Pedroza each had a stolen base.

It will be a tough week for both Litchfield and Camden-Frontier softball and baseball. The Terriers face Pittsford on the road this Tuesday, May 9. Camden-Frontier travels to Tekonsha on the same day. The Spartan programs travel to North Adams-Jerome for doubleheaders on Tuesday.
