Byron Bergen/Elba moves past Seton Catholic on penalty kicks to advance to state final

The Byron-Bergen/Elba Bees are down to a move around one barrier in order to become a boys soccer state champion.

Braedyn Chambry scored the winning penalty kick that gave the Bees the win Saturday over Binghamton Seton Catholic in the second Class C state tournament semifinal at Goshen High.

Colin Rae and then Colin Martin also put their penalty kicks past the Seton Catholic goalkeeper to give the Bees a 3-2 advantage.

The Bees struck first. Jack Farner rammed in a rolling shot by Byron-Bergen/Elba teammate Martin that had a chance to go into the goal with 19:42 remaining in the first half.

George Phillips evened the score for the Saints with 11:45 remaining in the second half. Phillips sent a free kick over a wall of Bees and into the top far corner on the goalkeeper's left.

Mount Academy (16-1), the Section IX champion from Ulster County, is in between the Bees (19-2-1) and the Section V champion's first state title in team history. The state final is 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Seton Catholic is 16-3.
