Butler basketball freshman Finley Bizjack to enter transfer portal

For the third offseason in a row, the Butler basketball program is in flux as fourth-fifths of its starting lineup has graduated, entered the transfer portal or declared for the NBA draft. Several key bench players have also entered the portal.

The latest entry to the portal is freshman guard Finley Bizjack. Bizjack announced his intentions to transfer via social media Sunday morning. Bizjack averaged 4.2 points per game and shot 27% from 3 in his lone season at Butler. His performance earned him Big East All-Freshman team honors.

“I am so thankful for having the privilege from the coaching staff here at Butler to play in Hinkle Fieldhouse at one of the highest levels in college basketball," Bizjack posted. "To the fans – thank you for supporting me and believing in me night after night regardless of how I performed… And lastly to Butler University – thank you for being the best home a kid could ask for. I hope I made a lasting impact here that goes farther than basketball."

Bizjack, joins senior guard DJ Davis and sophomore forward Connor Turnbull in the portal. Seniors Jahmyl Telfort and Posh Alexander have declared for the draft while maintaining their college eligibility, making them eligible to return to Butler next season.

Senior center Andre Screen, and junior guard/forward Pierre Brooks II are the only players to officially announce their plans to return to Butler next season.

Bizjack's departure puts the number of scholarship players officially still on the roster at five (Brooks, Screen, Boden Kapke, Augusto Cassia and Landon Moore). If Alexander and Telfort return, Butler will have five scholarship players to replace. If the veteran duo departs, Butler will have seven scholarship players to fill, more than half of the 13 total scholarship players on the team. All-State Brebeuf Jesuit guard Evan Haywood is still the only player signed for Butler's 2024 class.

Butler has been active in the portal. Among some of the players Butler has reportedly reached out to: Stetson guard Jalen Blackmon, San Jose State guard Myron Amey, Charlotte, St. Joseph's center Christ Essandoko, FAU guard Nick Boyd, Tulane guard Kolby King, and Maryland forward Jaime Kaiser.
