Bunbury, Penilla tally as Revs shut out Dynamo

Teal Bunbury and Cristian Penilla each scored a goal as the New England Revolution topped the Houston Dynamo 2-0 on Saturday night in Houston.

The goals were the first of the season for both Bunbury and Penilla, as the Revolution improved to 2-1-1 on the season.

Dynamo goaltender Chris Seitz was unable to contain the Revs' offensive attack and managed to stop just two of the four shots he faced.

Houston dropped to 1-2-1 on the season with the loss.

New England goalie Matt Turner logged six saves in the winning effort.

The Revolution took a 1-0 advantage into halftime.

Bunbury sent home a low cross from Penilla in the 15th minute to put the Revolution ahead 1-0.

One minute earlier, the Dynamo squandered a scoring opportunity when Leonardo's header from the center of the box missed wide right.

The Dynamo lost DaMarcus Beasley to a red card in the opening half after he took down Penilla at the top of the box.

In the 62nd minute, Houston nearly pulled even when a streaking Alberth Elis' attempt was deflected by Turner.

Penilla's tally came in the 71st minute after beating his man to the top of the goalie box before rocketing a right-footer into the top right of the net.

Houston's Mac Steeves subbed into the game in the 78th minute to make his MLS debut.

In the 90th minute, Memo Rodriguez's right-footed attempt from the right side of the box off a header from Mauro Manotas was blocked.

Jared Watts did not make his Dynamo debut after being acquired by the team from the Colorado Rapids in the middle of the week.

New England returns to action Friday against Montreal. Houston is off until April 14 when it visits San Jose.
