Bulls fire GM Gar Forman after 22 years with team
The Chicago Bulls have fired longtime general manager Gar Forman, the team announced on Monday.
“After 22 years with the Chicago Bulls, Gar Forman was relieved of his duties as General Manager and will not be involved in the Basketball Operations Department,” the statement read.
Forman joined the Bulls as a scout in 1998. Six years later he was named director of player personnel, and and in 2009 he ascended to general manager. Over the 10 seasons Forman was GM, the Bulls made the playoffs seven times.
"It has been an honor and a privilege to work for the Chicago Bulls for more than two decades,” Forman said in the statement. “There is no better ownership group in professional sports than the Reinsdorfs, and I want to thank Jerry and Michael for their support during my tenure. The Bulls organization will always hold a special place in my heart."
The announcement about Forman’s firing came less than an hour after Arturas Karnisovas was officially introduced as the Bulls’ new executive vice president of basketball operations. Karnisovas, charged with remaking the Bulls and changing their losing ways, replaces John Paxson, who took on that role in 2009 after spending six years as the Bulls GM. The now-fired Forman was promoted to GM in 2009 to replace Paxson.
