Bucs load up on offensive line depth in free agency

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers came into the 2024 offseason with multiple needs along the offensive line, and they’ve attacked that unit with a couple of bargain signings in free agency.

Most glaring is their need at left guard, but they could also use an upgrade over Robert Hainsey at center, in terms of the starting lineup. But they also needed to bolster their overall depth across the entire unit, and they did just that with the addition of Ben Bredeson and Sua Opeta.

Bredeson started all 16 games for the New York Giants last year, and brings experience at both guard and center, giving him valuable versatility for a depth piece in the offensive trenches.

Opeta was a spot starter for the Philadelphia Eagles over the past few years, and brings an intriguing blend of athleticism and power that could give him the inside track to the starting left guard spot.

The Bucs are still expected to address the interior of the offensive line with at least one of their premium picks in the 2024 NFL draft, but the additions of both Bredeson and Opeta give them improved depth and plenty of starting experience to lean on in the meantime.
