The Bucks have added young point guard TyTy Washington on two-way deal

The Milwaukee Bucks continued to infuse youth into their roster by signing second-year point guard TyTy Washington to a two-way contract Tuesday.

Washington, 21, was the No. 29 pick in the 2022 draft by the Memphis Grizzlies out of Kentucky. But, he was routed through Minnesota to Houston in a multiple-team trade of draft picks. The 6-foot-3 point guard appeared in 31 games for the Rockets, shooting 23.8% from behind the three-point line and 36.3% overall in 14 minutes per game.

This summer he was part of two trades, one that sent him from Houston to Atlanta and then one that sent him from Atlanta to Oklahoma City. He was waived by the Thunder on Aug. 18.

In his lone season at Kentucky, Washington shot 35% from behind the three-point line and averaged 12.5 points and 3.5 assists in 29 games in 2021-22.

TyTy Washington, who was part of a trade of draft picks that landed him in Houston last season, was part of two more trades this summer before being waived Aug. 19 by the Thunder.

With Washington’s signing, the Bucks have the maximum 3 two-way players allowed under the new collective bargaining agreement. The team already had rookie point guard Omari Moore and third-year point guard Lindell Wigginton on two-way contracts.

That means those players can shuttle between the Bucks and their G League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd.

The Bucks drafted Andre Jackson Jr. and Chris Livingston and have signed undrafted rookies Drew Timme and Jazian Gortman to Exhibit 10 deals, which gives the organization the opportunity to convert them to two-way contracts before the start of the season. Exhibit 10 contracts are for one year at a rookie minimum salary.

The Bucks also have the maximum 15 guaranteed contracts on their roster.

Under the new collective bargaining agreement, teams are able to carry 21 players through training camp, so the Bucks have one open spot.

Training camp begins Oct. 3 and teams must set their regular season rosters by 4 p.m. Oct. 23. The Bucks open the 2023-24 regular season against Philadelphia on Oct. 26 at Fiserv Forum.
