Bryce Harper to move to Knoxville in offseason, continuing MLB trend in Tennessee

Here are two nouns you didn't expect to read together in 2023: Bryce Harper and Knoxville.

The Philadelphia Phillies star and his family reportedly are set to move to Knoxville this winter, according to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports. Harper, the two-time National League MVP, grew up in Las Vegas but is expected to become the latest big-leaguer to spend their offseasons in Tennessee.

What makes Harper different is the move to East Tennessee, as several MLB players who settled in Tennessee did so near Nashville, including natives such as Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts and former Red Sox and Vanderbilt pitcher David Price (Price put up one of his many properties for sale in 2022). Other players have also settled nearby Nashville in Williamson County.

As Nightengale noted, Nashville is "an absolute hotbed" for MLB players on the move, not to mention the players' choice for MLB's next expansion city. Harper's reported move to East Tennessee adds to that overall trend.
