Bruins set team record for home wins with 34 amid historic 2022-23 season

Bruins set another team record vs. Capitals that stood for 52 years originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

The Boston Bruins had a record-breaking night Tuesday as a result of their 5-2 victory over the Washington Capitals at TD Garden.

Most notably, they set the NHL record for most points in a season with 133, surpassing the previous mark of 132 set by the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens. Two days earlier on Easter, the Bruins defeated the Philadelphia Flyers to break the league record for wins in a single regular season with 63. Boston will finish with 65 victories if it defeats the rival Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre on Thursday night.

The Bruins also set a team record against the Capitals. They now have 34 wins at home, which is the most in franchise history. Boston's 34-4-3 home record is by far the best in the league.

The previous team record for home wins in a season was 33, set by the 1970-71 and 1973-74 Bruins led by Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito. The league record for home wins in a single campaign is 36, set by the 1975-76 Philadelphia Flyers and 1995-96 Detroit Red Wings.

The Bruins will have home ice advantage throughout the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs as the Presidents' Trophy winners.
