Browns seek win in last game of 2013

BEREA, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns hope to go into the offseason on a winning note and with a good taste in their mouths.

With only one game left in another disappointing season, they are trying to find answers and rinse away the taste from their worst performance of the season.

The Browns were beaten by the Jets 24-3 in MetLife Stadium, where the hosts won six of eight home games this year.

The Browns, 4-11 overall, are just 1-6 on the road with a game in Pittsburgh remaining to close out the season.

Everything that has gone wrong for the Browns during the season went wrong in one game this time. The defense, which has become notorious for late collapses in the second quarter and fourth quarter, repeated the same mistakes. The upshot is that the Browns have more questions than answers about the future as another offseason nears.

"I bear all the responsibility," Browns coach Rob Chudzinski said. "I'm the head coach of this team. Ultimately this is on me and I'm committed to get it right."

The Jets scored 10 points in the final 1:18 of the second quarter, first a touchdown on a 13-play, 80-yard drive that lasted 5:29 and then a field goal on a 79-yard drive that needed only five plays and 34 seconds to complete.

The Jets scored a touchdown on an 81-yard drive and an 80-yard drive in the fourth quarter.

The Browns offense was in the red zone on four drives and managed only one touchdown. One drive died on downs at the 2 and two others ended in field goals.

The Browns played that game without tight end Jordan Cameron, who was out with a concussion. Nonetheless, the Browns had their chances, but Greg Little and Josh Gordon each dropped a pass in the end zone and a running touchdown by Edwin Baker in the fourth quarter was wiped out by a penalty on backup tight end Gary Barnidge.

The offensive woes might be easier to fix than the defensive problems. Gordon is usually more sure-handed than he was Sunday.

Notes: Wide receiver Josh Gordon was held out of the end zone and held under 100 yards for the second straight game. He still led the Browns with 97 yards receiving in that game and now has 1,564 receiving yards this season.
