Browns’ Myles Garrett sustained shoulder and biceps injury in car crash; status vs. Falcons unclear

Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Myles Garrett was released from the hospital with multiple injuries after he was involved in a single-car crash on Monday, the team confirmed on Tuesday.

Garrett sustained a shoulder sprain, biceps strain, minor lacerations and bumps and bruises in the crash, the team said.

It’s unclear how long he will be sidelined, or if he will be available for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons.

“First — and most importantly — we are thankful that Myles, his passenger and no other parties were seriously injured in the single-car accident yesterday,” the Browns said in a statement on Tuesday night. “After medical evaluation today, our team doctors at University Hospitals have concluded that Myles has sustained a shoulder sprain, biceps strain, minor lacerations as well as some bumps and bruises to various other body parts.

“Currently, our focus is on providing Myles the medical care needed for him to return to football activity. Although we hope to have him back soon, his availability for Sunday’s game in Atlanta will be evaluated by team doctors throughout the week.”

Garrett was reportedly driving home from practice with a female passenger around 3 p.m. ET on Monday afternoon when he crashed. His car reportedly went off the right side of the road and flipped multiple times before stopping.

Both Garrett and his passenger were wearing their seatbelts and were both transported to the hospital. The crash is currently under investigation, though it was reportedly caused after Garrett swerved to avoid an animal and then “overcorrected” on a wet road.

Garrett is in his sixth season in the league after the Browns took him with the No. 1 overall pick in 2017. The 26-year-old has seven total tackles and three sacks so far this season. The Browns, who started the year 2-1, will take on the Falcons on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
