Brooklyn Nets suggested to trade Lonnie Walker IV if he’s out of the rotation

The Brooklyn Nets still have two preseason games to go before their regular season starts on Oct. 25. In that time, the coaching staff will be evaluating the roster to see who will be part of the rotation moving forward. One of the players currently fighting for playing time may be losing some support from an outlet.

In a recent article by Bleacher Report, Andy Bailey suggested that the Nets put Lonnie Walker IV on the trade block. To be fair, Bailey does note that it is still too early to see if Walker will be part of Brooklyn’s rotation or not.

While it is still the preseason and it’s hard to get a gauge for what the Nets’ rotation will be aside from the players who played with the team last season. Also, Cam Johnson (hamstring) has not played in the preseason yet so that is another factor to consider as this season moves along.

Walker could get a decent role as a scorer off the bench, but with players like Cam Thomas and Dennis Smith Jr. vying for minutes in the backcourt, there is a possibility that Walker could be out of the rotation to begin the season. Here’s what Bailey had to say about Walker:

“One young(ish) guard who could maybe return some value in the short term is 24-year-old Lonnie Walker IV, who’s averaged double figures in each of the last three seasons. Despite that, he signed a one-year, minimum-salary deal with the Nets in July.

Walker may not be good enough to supplant Spencer Dinwiddie or even Dennis Smith Jr. in the guard rotation, and he’s not really big enough to fit the positionless mold on the wings that players like Simmons, Mikal Bridges and Cameron Johnson bring to Brooklyn.”
