Brooklyn Nets notes roundup for 11/16; catch up on everything Nets

The Brooklyn Nets (6-5) are in an interesting place as a franchise right now. Despite missing at least two starters for every game except the season opener on Oct. 25 against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Brooklyn has found a way to be one game over .500 despite being the underdog in most of its games so far this season.

With that being said, the Nets play the Miami Heat on Thursday for the second time this season after Brooklyn won a close one against the Heat earlier in the campaign. The Nets will be missing two players, guards Ben Simmons and Cam Thomas, for Thursday’s contest due to injuries.

While Thomas has an left ankle sprain that he could return from in the next week or two, Simmons’ injury situation remains troubling. After his left hip issue was initially reported as soreness, it became a contusion, and is now labeled as a nerve impingement in his lower back, different from the one that prematurely ended his 2022-23 season in March.

Further Clarity On Ben Simmons' Injury

After a few games of Simmons being listed as out due to left hip soreness or a left hip contusion, he is currently listed as being out due to a nerve impingement in his lower left back. In the Nets’ statement about Simmons, Brooklyn said that his status would be updated in one week from Tuesday (Nov. 14).

Brian Lewis of the New York Post, who initially reported what Bernie Lee, Simmons’ agent, had to say about Simmons’ injury, gave more information on what to expect regarding Simmons’ developing injury situation. In part, Lewis said that he spoke to a back specialist who is at the same facility where Simmons had his initial back surgery done and that the specialist said that Simmons could be out for possibly 2-3 weeks.

Zach LaVine Not Likely To Want To Come To The Nets

It is known by now that there are rumors that Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine could be getting traded this season because of the increasing possibility that Chicago will not be competing for championships with their current core of LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Nikola Vucevic. Jake Fischer of Yahoo! Sports recently reported that LaVine is unlikely to be interested in coming to Brooklyn in a trade.

In preparation for the Nets to face the Cleveland Cavaliers in Paris on Jan. 11, 2024, they were asked some questions regarding various aspects of the team including: who spends the most time in the gym? Some of the answers were interesting such as Ben Simmons being the one who always picks up the check due to his lucrative contract.
