Brooklyn Nets expected to be worse in 2023-24
The Brooklyn Nets had a solid 2023 NBA Draft as they came away with a few players who could be promising in the near future. In addition, they made several moves in free-agency to try to bolster the team to make a playoff run next season. Unfortunately, there are some who are pessimistic on how good the Nets will be next season.
According to Dan Favale of Bleacher Report, Brooklyn will be worse in 2023-24 than they were last season when they made the Eastern Conference playoffs as the sixth seed. Favale’s prediction makes sense given the fact that the Nets are transitioning from a team led by Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving to a squad led by Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson.
From seeing what the general opinion of the Nets appears to be, Brooklyn has to hope that Ben Simmons can get closer to his All-Star self to add to what Bridges, Johnson, and Nic Claxton are going to bring for the foreseeable future. Here’s some of Favale’s thoughts on his prediction of the Nets next season:
“Mikal Bridges’ breakout post-Kevin Durant trade coupled with a “good job, good effort” first-round sweep at the hands of the Philadelphia 76ers somewhat overshadowed just how far the Brooklyn Nets fell following their superstar fire sale. They went 12-15 after Bridges made his debut, with a bottom-eight offense and league-average-ish defense.
Brooklyn’s roster isn’t materially different compared to that 27-game stretch. Darius Bazley, Dennis Smith Jr. and Lonnie Walker IV are intriguing fliers, but they aren’t fortune-turners.”
