Broncos coach Vic Fangio on QB Drew Lock: ‘I like where he’s at’

Broncos second-year quarterback Drew Lock has received positive reviews through 10 days of training camp.

Denver left tackle Garett Bolles had glowing praise for Lock last week and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur said the QB has done “a really good job” installing the new offense.

Broncos coach Vic Fangio added to the praise on Tuesday.

“Drew’s got good talent with the throwing the ball,” Fangio said. “He can throw the ball to all parts of the field equally well, meaning short, intermediate and deep. I like his scrambling ability which is obvious. I think he’s got a pretty good command of the offense even though it’s a new offense. There is some carryover from last year’s offense. He’s in a much better spot than he was last year at this time.”

Fangio had good things to say about Lock but he also pointed out that the QB still has areas where he needs to improve.

“He’s still a guy that’s only played five games,” Fangio said. “He’s into his second training camp. Last year’s got cut short. I like where he’s at, but he still has a lot of improvement to make I believe.”

Lock having room for improvement isn’t a bad thing. If the second-year QB can clean up his game, Lock should be poised for a big year in 2020.
