New Broncos CB Riley Moss is a tough, instinctive defensive back
Riley Moss aced his job interview when he visited the Denver Broncos’ facility on a top-30 visit ahead of the 2023 NFL draft.
The Broncos were impressed enough with Moss to trade up for him in the third round of the draft last weekend. We don’t know what questions Moss was asked when he met with the team, but the cornerback was asked by a media member about his strengths on a conference call after he was drafted.
“Playing in the Big Ten, you have to be a physical DB,” Moss said. “You have to come up and make tackles. I think I’m a physical player. I think I’m instinctive, and I’m just a ballplayer all around. I’m excited that the Broncos gave me an opportunity.”
Moss believes he has an attribute that can’t be taught.
“I think I’m an instinctive player,” he said. “I think that’s the biggest thing. That’s one of those things where not everyone has that. I think you just are born with it. It’s tough to teach that type of type of thing while also being tough. In Iowa, our practices were tough. We’d tackle three or four times a week. I’m used to that part, and I think that’s a big part of my game as well.”
In Denver, Moss will likely be competing with Damarri Mathis for the No. 2 cornerback job across from Pat Surtain. He’s eager to join the secondary in whatever role the team gives him this fall.
“I love being a part of a defense where everyone does their job, everyone knows what they’re doing, and they fly around and make plays,” Moss said. “That’s exactly what Denver does. I’m excited to be a part of that.”
