BRIMLEY – Brimley volleyball player Lindsey Hill is getting closer to having the experience of a lifetime.

The Brimley senior has been selected by the American Council of International Studies (ACIS) to play volleyball for America’s Team in Barcelona, Spain in early July.

“I created an online profile,” Hill said of her being invited. “They saw it and reached out to me.”

There are plenty of things on the volleyball side to get excited about, and Hill is on board with all of them.

“I’m going to get to play different positions, so I’m excited about that,” she said. “And I’m going to be playing with people that I’ve never even practiced with. We’ll be seeing different teams. It’s all going to be new and I’m really looking forward to that.”

As lucky as Hill was to be invited, the team is equally lucky to have her in Barcelona.

Hill is the reigning Player of the Year in the Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference and was named third team All-State as a setter that finished her career with well over 1,000 career assists.

She has committed to North Central Michigan College in Petoskey to continue her volleyball career.

The teams that America’s Team will be playing against will be local club teams that are roughly at the competitive level of a junior college team.

Despite all the excitement, Hill does have some concerns rattling around in her head.

“I’ve never really travelled much,” she said with a laugh. “The farthest I’ve ever been from home is Columbus, Ohio. I’ve never flown before and I’m hoping there’s no turbulence on the flight. I’m nervous about it, but everyone keeps telling me it’ll be fine.”

While she may not exactly be a world traveler, Hill has done a little research into Barcelona and has some things in mind that she would like to look into while she’s there.

“I bought a book and I’ve been reading about Barcelona,” she said. “I am looking forward to seeing the cathedral and eating some of the local seafood.”

In addition to whatever sightseeing the team does individually, there are some planned team trips as well. The team will be visiting the 1992 Olympic Complex during their stay as well as getting some beach time.

Hill will leave for Barcelona and will be abroad for nine days and the action starts as soon as the plane touches down as game one is schedule for arrival day. The team will not get a break until day four of the trip, playing at least one game every day until then.

Despite that on-the-go schedule, Hill is ready to soak up every second.

“This is an experience that I’m really looking forward to,” Hill said. “The volleyball will be great but some of the other things I’ll get to see and do while I’m there will be incredible.”
